The Wisconsin Muskie Tour (WMT) is currently experiencing our mid-season break during the month of July. The WMT has completed thirteen qualifying tournaments and will resume the 2006 schedule on August 5th at Boom Lake in Rhinelander. The season will continue through August and September with the remaining four qualifying tournaments, culminating with the Invitational Championship on September 24 and 25th in Eagle River.

The final six tournaments on the WMT schedule are the largest and highest paying of all the events. The Boom Lake tournament is guaranteed a $10,000.00 first place payout and is a one-day qualifying event in the Eastern Region. The Pelican Lake tournament is also guaranteed a $10,000.00 first place payout and will be held on Sunday, August 6th. Both tournaments fill to capacity (75 teams) every year but at press time, there are still a few spots open.

The three final regular season events for the WMT are two-day tournaments that will pay out $20,000.00 to the first place team, if the tournaments fill to capacity (150 teams). The first two-day qualifier is the Northern Region finals on the Manitowish Chain, to be held on August 19th and 20th. This tournament has proved to be the most popular on the WMT circuit for the past three years, having produced high numbers and quality muskies registered throughout the tournament. The WMT anticipates this tournament to fill to capacity.

The second two-day qualifying tournament is the Eastern Region finals on the Three Lakes Chain, to be held on August 26th and 27th. This is the first year the WMT will be hosting a tournament on the Three Lakes Chain and advance registration has been brisk. The Three Lakes Chain has a reputation of reputation of producing quality fish and this tournament should fill to capacity as well and pay out the full amount.

The last qualifying tournament of the season is the South/Central Region finals on Lake DuBay, to be held on September 9th and 10th. This will also be the first time the WMT will host a tournament on Lake DuBay and this early fall date on DuBay could possibly produce the largest muskie ever registered in WMT history. A muskie registered that is fifty inches or larger could earn the team an extra $10,000.00. Each of the three regional finals have some openings and if you act quickly, your team can join in on the fun!

All Of the tournament anglers competing in the second season on the tour will get a chance to win a new $34,000.00 Ranger Boat, compliments of Heckel's Marina and Ranger Boats. The winner of the Ranger Boat will be drawn at the WMT's Invitational Championship.

The WMT is the largest muskie circuit in muskie tournament history and increasing numbers of anglers of all skill levels join the tour every year. The low entry fee of $300 per team, coupled with the high payouts (over 100% in cash and prizes every year since the WMT began in 2001) has made the WMT very attractive and popular among muskie anglers and continues to bring more anglers to the sport of muskie fishing. It has always been the WMT's philosophy to create a muskie circuit that gives something back to muskie anglers who have given so much to the sport of muskie fishing.

The Wisconsin Muskie Tour is open to the public. To find out how you can be a part of the fun while continuing to learn and share ideas with fellow anglers, log on to the WMT's web site http://www.WMTseries.com , call (715)369-1394 or email [email protected] .
