Posts: 33 Location: Minneapolis, MN | Did not see a single fish (again) on Waconia yesterday 3-8:30. Below is what we did...hoping some TC Metro folks can suggest some general adjustments that will help us enjoy that lake little more. Conditions: Stable sunny weather (not in our favor but we fish when we can and not always when we want to). SW winds 5-10mph, air temp 80 water temp 76. Approach: Two passes at several reefs and the island. Fished tight the first time, cast from 10 feet of water. Second time tried to stay out 15 feet or further. Baits: bucktails and gliders, topwaters from 7:30 on Should I change the approach and look somewhere else for fish? Troll? Throw different baits? Different lake? BTW, did not see other musky boats. Less than a dozen walleye boats. Weekday fishing is a treat. Thanks! Eric

Posts: 2384 Location: On the X that marks the mucky spot | It's slow. The only fish I was seeing were in 25'+. I haven't hardly gotten out compared to most years, but it seems to be an all or nothing kind of year so far.

Posts: 193 Location: Mayer, MN | I hear you Eric_H. Was out on Waconia last night from 6 to 10, Thursday July 7th. Caught nothing, saw nothing, and almost no fisherman out there. Tried bucktails, jerks, spinnerbaits, and topwater. It has been a really bad year for me so far.

Location: Apple Valley | Yep, its been little slow. I've been moving fish in very shallow water( 1-4Ft) around docks and thick clumps of ship weeds early in the morning and late evening on water choppers and M&G spinnerbaits. Very lazy follows. I have boated a few 30" fish but nothing to get excited about!! Going to Cass Lake tomorrow morning for a week. It's going to be my first trip up there. It feels like Christmas around my house today!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Brian

Posts: 454 | Eric, I don't know about the whole metro area, but Waconia has been VERY slow the last couple of weeks. The water has been treated for weeds already and since then the clarity has gone way done. It was very clear early in the year and very murky now. I am still surprised that you are not seeing many other musky guys on the water. I am out there a lot and see quite a few others out there too. I am in the Silver and Black Tuffy so if you are out there stop by and say hi. Tony

Posts: 734 Location: Watertown, MN | Hooks I cannot guide you to all your fish, I will take you out soon. Things seem slow that is why I have taken a vacation from the waters of late, not missing action, getting caught up on the honeydew list. Wired in the new electronics, and ready for next weekend Troyz

Posts: 267 Location: Right behind you (tap, tap) BOOO | I know I have a fair amount of time in, in the metro and one trip to the pond for a day, and the only muckee I seen was at the pond, a good sized girl that attacked my bait boat side and missed. I praying to god tomorrow morning treats me better. We'll see. Esox23

Posts: 12 | Things are slow - Try crawling into the slop, short precise casts around the weeds with twitch baits shallow running hair or suick style baits. Maybe down size a bit that may help. I keep moving fish but can get them to eat. Otherwise troll short (Propwash) and fast. You cover a lot od water and the fish does not get much time to look at a bait. They eat it or not

Why dont you guys float open water on these metro lakes? Every time I am out on the water all I see are guys throwing baits up shallow.

Posts: 12 | You catch any fish? I know that the hartman metro tourney had a lot of fish from open water registered. I moved them shallow but could not get then to commit. How do you narrow down "Open" water? You casting deep structures or trolling?

Posts: 480 | A lot of those tournament fish were on steep and deep breaks, it just a matter of being there at the right time with a well presented bait. It wasn't just one application that caught fish. I like how fish a caught sometimes, and you never see them netted. I have to not watch my own bait so closely.
