Posts: 4266 | I can count on one hand the number of decent muskies that I've caught on buzzbaits. Are they really worth the investment? I'd rather throw hard top waters, and if I need a lure to run that high in the water column, I'll bulge a #9 Colorado. Let me hear from the guys who are "go to" buzz bait guys, or are they just a lure to throw in very select areas? Beav

Posts: 4266 | Let's check the results.... Seems nobody thinks that a buzzbait is a must have lure in the muskie tacklebox. So I can probably get by with the 2 Slopmasters that I customized. I like the flat head design, so I kept that and cut off the clacker and replaced the tandem blades with a large single one. One tip that I picked up while watching the FLW Tour on ESPN. Do you know when it's a good time to throw top waters and when it's not? Sworrall and I had this discussion. When you throw a buzzbait, or any other topwater straight retrieve lure and it leaves a trail of bubbles- Good Time. Know why? Bubbles only will form during stable or low pressure. During high pressure, they will pop. So if you're leaving a trail of bubbles, conditions are right for the fish. And you can find your way home again. Beav

Posts: 2384 Location: On the X that marks the mucky spot | I think that a lot of people don't throw them because they are usually poor hooking baits and most of them out there aren't very durable. I can catch 10-20 fish on a stomper before it's toast, but a boogerman may only be good for 1-2 trips out even if fish don't hit it. In the reeds they're invaluable. Everywhere else they're ok IMOP.

Posts: 4266 | I think that I've done better by buldging a big Colorado single spin for skis than I have on buzzbaits. Durability is definitely one drawback that I've found. Even small pike can turn them into untuneable pieces of wire and aluminium. I'll cross building a better buzzbait off of mt to-do list. Beav

Posts: 317 | Boogermans seem to wake up fish nicely in my home lake, good for some violent strikes.

I have found them to be good baits early season down South, and even use them in big waves on big ponds. Todd Minor has just built some new custom ones for me and I also am getting some smaller ones from the Cave Run Pro Shop. Boogermans are great in the slop, and reeds, and so are Slop Masters. These are little baits and don't hold up as well as spinnerbaits or bucktails, so only use the buzz baits when you have to

Posts: 100 | I caught my biggest fish to date on a boogerman. (a healthy 53) We throw buzzbaits in the fall up here when the fish move up to the reeds. There are places a boogerman can get that no spinnerbait could in my opinion. However I started using some Musky Hijackers and am pretty impressed with them other than the fact that if they arent tuned right they are a bear to get to come to the top right away.

Buzzbaits move big fish. I biggest fish I've even seen was chewing on a Boogerman. My freind makes a buzzbait that is beefed up and much stronger then a Boogerman. It also rides lower in the water which seems to help with hook ups. We call it the Tangler and it has out fished the Boogerman big time. With all buzzbaits you really need to learn how to hook set. We always use the term, "Let em eat". You really let the fish hook itself. Keep reeling until the fish is pulling the rod out of your hand then just a short hook set is needed to bury it. I love buzzbaits and use them quite often. There a big fish bait.

Posts: 376 Location: Lake Vermilion Tower, MN | I use inline buzzers most of the time. I throw them in reeds and over the deeper cabbage. They do get alot of attention in late summer when our water temps are at their summer peak. "Ace"

Posts: 32886 Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | I use the Violent Strike Magnum quite a bit. Heavy weeds that a spinnerbait just flops around on, reeds, and stumps are where i toss it the most. I have quite a few nice muskies on that lure, and some really nice pike. It's tough, too. The Sabaskong Bay muskie in the MuskieFIRST Video section was caught on a VS Mag.

Location: Athens, Ohio | I got my first topwater muskie on a Violent Strike buzzer that I got at one of the Cave Run outings. It remains my favorite, although Mauser made me one as part of his Doetail collection that is running a close second place. I didn't like the Boogerman bait, seemed kinda flimsy. m
