Posts: 7084 Location: Northwest Chicago Burbs | PMTT Mercury Marine Summer Challenge Day One With a full field of 140 boats fishing 10 of the 28 lakes in Eagle River this weekend, conditions appear ripe for some fast muskie action. Fast moving weather and stable air temperature over the last week should have the fish ready to go. Partly cloudy skies turned quickly to heavy rain and thunder at the morning starting point, with the rain tapering off just after boat number 140 rolled past Tim Widlacki to start the day. As this report is being written, sunny skies are surrounded by dark quickly flowing clouds. The forecast calls for coming cloudy skies, with scattered thunderstorms throughout the afternoon. Participants reported action in pre-fishing throughout the chain, but with mostly smaller sub-legal fish coming into the boat. Cabbage growth was stated as being lush, with weed beds accessable from a 10ft. breakline. From observing the boats as they passed the starting point, rods appeared rigged with baits tending towards the hotter end of the color spectrum. Historically, the PMTT Mercury Marine Summer Challenge has been won by teams with a number of fish, with last year's winners of Jason Summers and Tony Dumars registering 44.50, 39.75, and 40 fish. High temperatures and stable weather last year were the conditions by which 37 fish were boated in the 2005 event. This weekends' quickly changing conditions however hold the possibility of much higher numbers, with the definite possibility of larger fish. Posts: 7084 Location: Northwest Chicago Burbs | Indirect contrast to the expected, and entirely different than the weatherman said, the skies have cleared to partly cloudy with temperatures moving up into the mid to high 70s. Had an opportunity to speak to one boat of anglers who said they had not seen a fish by their own efforts, but did have a chance to watch another boat register two fish. With this stability of weather, and the increased temperatures it will be very interesting to see how the fish will react. Attachments ---------------- ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Posts: 7084 Location: Northwest Chicago Burbs | A day that went from nice, to ugly before the last boat had left the dock definitely had more twists and turns in store for the 140 boats fishing the Eagle River chain today. Partly cloudy turned to cloudy, which turned to cloudy with dark clouds, which finally went to thunder, lightening, and heavy rains. Just as the middle of the pack of the tourney entrants were passing in their numbers and results, the skies opened up with nearly torrential rains. The fish however seemed to respond positively to these changes with a large number of fish caught. Though these numbers are very unofficial at this point, over 21 fish will be registering legal fish, with a number of doubles, a few triples, and possibly a quadruple. Though 34s, and 35s seem to be the majority of fish caught, a number of fish over 40" are confirmed, with rumors of high 40s having been brought to the net. Official numbers will be released in full after the 6PM meeting tonight. Stay with MuskieFIRST for the best tournament coverage on the web! Slamr--nice report and pic's . That one with the pleasure boater pulling a tuber appears to be way withing casting distance of a tourney angler. Here these guys are , paying good money to fish an event and have people on innertubes buzzin' them . That was to drive them nuts. Wonder they don't do something they would propably regret , Who would be at fault if an accident happened and a lure got stuck in an arm , leg or head ? ManitouDan
