I was looking for an existing post to ask this question, but couldnt find one...

These leaders are both knotted and crimped. Not to ruffle any feathers here, but I dont see the point. It seems to me that if one (either the knot or the crimp) fails then the whole leader would fail. Besides the crimp keeping the knot from slipping, I cant think of a single scenario where one could fail and the leader would maintain its integrity. I dont see the need for taking the extra time and effort to do both.

Am I missing something? John, can you enlighten me about your leaders?

I'm all for a stronger leader so if this does, in fact, accomplish that then I am all for it, but I cant see it right now

It is not really there for strength, but for peace of mind for most people.

Just a little extra security, even though it is not needed or necessary. Some people worry about knots slipping or failing, so this is their little comfort piece.

Just like on my quick strike rigs I tie up with seven strand. The hook is tied to the leader, but I also crimp it to keep a clean look and it is also there for peace of mind. They don't need it, but more strength is always better.

Mike what type of knot do you tie with your seven strand?

Hillbilly knots.....usually about 4 simple knots, twist the leader about 3 times, tie another knot then crimp the loose end.

Never had one fail and never had one slip.

luke, prety much what mike said, its added security. fluoro knots can slip from time to time no matter what, its the way the material is. with the crimp it keeps slipage down to a minimum, plus the crimp also keep sthe tag end down to help eliminate any pick up of debries! one thing i always noticed baout people willing to try fluoro was that half say that knotting is no good, only use crimps, the other half will tell you crimping is no good only use knots. well heres both! plus each knot and crimp is superglued. on a side note congrats to petek and pflesox (paul) for nailing a couple of mid 40" class fish on my leaders this week!!! way to go guys!! luke feel free to give me a shout if you got anymore questions ill be mobile the rest of the day!
thanks

It's kind of like wearing a belt with suspenders.
John, your leader worked great for me on Sunday, popped a 44 1/2" with Mike Hulbert.
Hit on a figure 8 too.

Pretty much what I figured.

The slipping I can see, but if the knot FAILS I dont see how the crimp is going to save anything, or vice versa.

Either way, nice looking stuff John.

I Hate 7 strand.
A fish rolls in the leader, and she gets sliced like bait in her mouth. When the situation calls for a flexible leader, it's either 80# flouro or 150# mono leaders for me, both side crimped with the best crimps, and pliers on the market.

luke, with the crimp in place there will never be a knot failure, in most cases what causes knot failure is the tag end slipping out of the knot and it comes undone. with the crimp in place the slipping can never start.

I have to give Stealth Tackle leaders a vote of confidence. I got this thick 43 inch fish on the figure eight on the first turn, The fish ate the bait and had it down all the way to the start of the leader. A few head shakes and she was in the boat. I've caught other fish on them as well, but this experience gives me much confidence in their performance.

I'm with Luke, seems kind of overkill. Like wearing two pair of underwear, one on the inside and one on the outside. Looks and feels kinda funny.

well like i stated it is mainly added insurance. as well as keeping the tag end down so not to pick up debries....however since they are all custom made one at a time by me, i can and will upon request make them with or without crimps.

I can kind of see the point of the crimp for the guys that are scared of knots slipping...a little added insurance. But, if I were leary of knots I would just use a crimp, not both

And, for those that are nervous about crimps the knot adds absolutely no value.

Just my opinion.

Either way, it appears that John makes a tough leader using only the best components. John, for that I commend you.

I use both suspenders and a belt. It helps keep the outside pair of undies up!
