| I have an Alumacraft 165 Navigator tiller that is 5 years old and it is under powered with a 40hp 2 stroke Johnson on it. The motor has always been on the same way since I bought it used 4 years ago. I always thought the motor looked low on the boat so I thought I might move it up a notch on the mount to the transom to gain some speed. I did not just move the pin up that the motor rests on at the lowest level. I took the motor off and raised it up on the mount to the boat. It now sits in the second hole. The problem is that the 2 brackets on the front side of the motor that hook the transom on the inside of the transom no longer hold the motor to the transom. The motor does not rest on the top of the transom. It is bolted on with four bolts but, at high end there is a great force on the transom. Am I going to rip my motor off at some point? I called a local marina and the guy told me it will be fine. This is also the same guy I would probably need to buy a new boat from when the motor goes flying off. Please let me know if anyone else has done this and all was O.K. I can send pictures to clarify. Thanks in advance. Tom |

Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | That's exactly how many boats are rigged, at least one hole up. the bolts will do the job, so no worries. |

| No problem. Most motors are hung with the four bolts. I would suggest that you use plenty of Silicone RTV on the bolts as the pass through the transom. You need to keep the water from getting inside, and soaking the wood in there. That will become a problem down the road. |
