| Has anyone ever caught a muskie or any fish for that matter that has another lure in its mouth? People always say that a fish has enzymes to decay hooks, is that the case?

Location: Cohasset, MN | I was with a guide on Mille Lacs a couple years ago. The guide snagged some foreign line (some kind of braid) with a bucktail he was throwing. When he pulled on the line he could feel something pull back - not real hard, though. He gently pulled a very large muskie along side the boat with a big minnow bait stuck in its mouth. We were fumbling around trying get the net when the big girl gave a kick, broke the line, and away she went. No way of knowing, of course, how long that lure had been there but the line sure seemed to have broken easily. I guess I sorta answered you first question but not the second. |

| I fileted a walleye that I caught on The Mississippi River last spring, and my electric knife stopped about half-way down the fish. It was making a weird noise, so I pulled it out to see what the problem was. When I examined the entrails, I found a 3/8 ounce jighead and twister tail in the fish's stomach. There was no rust on the hook and the twister looked like new, so I assume that he had eaten the jig very recently.
Several times I have fileted walleyes caught on rip-rap and wing dams and had live crawfish crawl out of their innards when I pulled their guts out.

Location: Home of the 2016 World Series Champion Cubs | A 45"x22" tiger on Lac Vieux Desert on a Q/S Sucker (16"). As I'm removing the Q/S rig from the fish I see about 6' of spider wire trailing from the fish's mouth tied to a heavy guage 5/0 single hoook firmly embeded in her gullet. The barb had come all the way through back in to her mouth. Got my Q/S out easily and was able to cut the other hook and remove it completely. Cool thing was she gave me the biggest shower of any fish Ive ever released as she kicked and took off on the release. It seemed just as cool to me that I was able to release a muskie in BETTER condition than she was before I caught her. Surely she was a gone in time if you saw the way her gullet was hooked. No signs of rust whatsover on that hook.
The thing that gets me though is a little moisture in my walley box and ALL the hooks go to hell with rust. Not quite so bad with my musky boxes though but rust there as well.

Location: Norway | Earlier this month, a friend and I caught 2 pikes, with typical icefishing tackles in them. The first had swallowed the whole rig, and my buddy bonked it, and the hook was inside its stomach, with the wire and swivel coming out of its gills. The other had hooks and wires hangin in its corner of the mouth, which we safely removed, let her go, she put on helluva fight, so I dont think that the tackle bothered her, it for sure doesnt now.
These being 99% sure icefishing tackles, they would at least have been in the fish for 1 month, we fished 2 weeks after iceout, and the last 2 weeks of ice, isnt safe to fish on, so they would have been older than that, no rust or anything on them.

| I find it hard to believe that hooks just dissolve from the mouth of any fish as easily as all of the so called experts claim. |

| Sab Bay for the first MF outing there. Kly caught a 41 on that special Globe, and as I went to remove the hooks, I saw the point of another hook sticking out of the jaw. I removed it, and saw that it had been cut. It appearred to be a vanadium hook, and with not a speck of rust or corrosion on it. No telling how long it had been there, A day, a week, or longer. I'm not so sure the fishes digestive juices will dissolve a hook in the mouth area very quickly. Especially these new hooks made with high carbon steels, and chemically treated. I leave baits in the boat all the time, and some of those hooks never rust.
BTW, I still have that hook point. Part of my collection of fond memories of a great kid and fishing partner. |

| Years ago, my son caight a walleye in the Mississippi. He saw a jig stuck in its gullet, so he kept it. When we cleaned it , I also found a hook in its stomach! I could understand it if it was a catfish (nine lives). Neither the jig nor the hook in the stomach where dteriorated. It may have been feeding but I'think it was just a matter of time before the hooks took there toll.

| I have caught Bass that had worm hooks being passed out their bungs { no worm left just hooks } and was able to remove them safely . The hooks were mostly disolved, not much left of them......... |

Location: Chicago, IL | too many sadly. my brother got a cobia late last week that had another rig in its mouth. took ours and the other out no problem. it looks pretty happy to me.

| I caught a 4 lbs smallie got him into the net I saw something in his mouth, my bait popped out. I pick up the fish put him back in the water. Picked up the net and found another bait in my net. |

| A couple of years back I was throwing a suick onto a weed bed and when the bait was just pulling off the edge a small musky took a swipe and it hit the bait but did not get hooked, I threw back and the same thing happened I said to my buddy this fish is nuts than on the third cast back the fish took a swipe and got hooked down it's side, I reeled in the fish put it in the net and started unhooking the fish when I looked at it's mouth it had a small trout size mepps pinning it's jaws together one hook it the top jaw and 2 in the bottom.
I took the small spinner out of the fishes mouth and the fish just started just opening and closing it mouth.
The fish was 35" and looked pretty healthy, I don't think the spinner was in it's mouth very long but I'm sure the fish was hungry judging by the way it was trying to hit my bait and I think that if someone didn't catch this fish it may have died.
