I hear a number of different opinions on this. Which do you prefer for night fishing and why? Does it depend on the type of water that you're fishing? Does it depend on other factors?

Aaron,
I typically throw jointed baits at night with the lone exception being the Slammer 10" Deep Minnow.Lots of vibration and thump.Bill made me a couple custom 10" Jointed this winter that I can't wait to throw.Good stuff. For me, it's all about the sound/vibration at night.Dark water or clear, 1st choice is jointed.I feel I can also work a jointed bait slower without losing any action as well. Depends on the situation. Agree with Steve's night fishing theory posted above.

For twitching I prefer straight. For short-line trolling I like jointed. For general cranking I like straight, I think I can feel the bottom/struction better with a straight model, but there are times the fish prefer jointed and I'll mix it up to see what they like that day. I have found that I like small jointed Ernie's and Depthraiders during post cold front conditions, move it slower and still get good vibration.

But for night fishing... I prefer jointed.
