Posts: 355 Location: Wausau, Wisconsin | I don't know for myself, but I imagine being a senior with serious health problems is a daily, uphill battle. Nevertheless, a half an hour before Gander opens its doors for the Musky Methods Show in Appleton two gentleman, a senior father and son are walking into the store. I inform them we are not open for 30 minutes and the man asks if he can use the bathroom. I say sure and begin to walk him to the restroom. He struggled to walk the distance of our store because of a health condition. Afterwards I get him a padded chair to rest on. He informs me they are from Mautson, a LONG ways away from Appleton. They drove for the musky seminars he tells me. I thank him for joining us, tell him to feel free to hang out until we open. An hour and a half later our first speaker Phil Schweik speaks for them and the day goes on. After 5 seminars, 4 lure demos and 11 hours, the man and his son clap for my seminar. Now 7:30pm I draw a name of dozens for our grand prize, a musky fishing package worth over $1,500. I draw the elder man's name. The man walks over almost teared with joy and thanks me from one end of the world to the other. He blessed us by God and explained how we hadn't an idea of how much it meant to him. I carried his gear and helped them to their car. His son, overwelmed by his father's joy was evident in his words. At 8:30pm they got on their way, a much shorter drive now. I can't help but be blown away by how lucky I am to first of all fish, but more so to experience the great things fishing has given me that don't involve a hookset. It would be selfish of me to take credit for this man's prize. 99% of the things were donated by the vendors that participated and they all deserve a HUGE thank you from me. Posts: 2691 Location: Pewaukee, Wisconsin | Very nice to see how that day worked out. It's always special to see people helping others. We in the fishing industry sometimes take it for granted. I always thank the man above for the days I get to enjoy and the joy I can share with others. Beaver, you are so rite about the givers and recievers. I donate lots and enjoy the thanks and enjoyment I get from the gifts I donate. It always seems like they go to the people who deserve them. Thanks for the story Justin. I bet that made your day. | ||
