One of the top pins on my maxxum has become loose, so every couple of hours I have to hammer it back in. The pin looks like a big nail with a head on one side, and cut flat on the bottom. Naturally the head acts as a stop, and the bottom seats itself into the opposite side of the frame. The seat is the problem, somehow it expanded and pin keeps working it's way out. Has anybody else had this problem, did Minn Kota have a fix? How have did you fix it?

Hello. My Maxxum 55 had the same problem. I almost lost the pin one day last summer, about 80% out.Tap the pin out and file off just maybe a 1/16 or so off the inside of the shoulder so the pin sticks farther out when you tap it back in. Then I took a small dab of JB weld and carefully glued a thin flat washer on to the end of the pin. Probably not the best fix, but at the time Minn Kota didn't offer a longer pin for replacement. Be very careful with the JB Weld though, you don't want to glue the pin to the mount on the motor. If you don't want to try the epoxy, you can pop out the pin and drill app. 3/4'' from the inside of the shoulder with a small bit and tap the pin back in place. Then pop in a cotter pin. The pin still works its way outa 1/4'' or so, but at least it won't fall out.

Excellent! Thanks, for the ideas. I'll check to see if Minn Kota has a fix, if not I'll try the cotter pin approach.

I had a similar problem with my maxxum 44, the problem was with the threaded insert that presses in to the aluminum housing. I ended up drilling a small hole into the housing and countersinking the insert not quite to the threads. Then I ran a tap into the aluminum housing and put a collar set screw into the housing. The screw holds the insert so it cannot slide out of the housing. If you pull the pin out you can slide the insert towards the outside with a small punch and run the drillbit through without damaging the insert. If you have any questions you can send me a pm with your phone number and I will give you more details.
