what sort of connector do you use to link your baits to your leaders?

Mostly split rings, but I do use snap-ease as well...not worried about them opening, but I go through too many as after a day or two on the water I worry about the metal fatigue from being opened and closed...got to be a bit expensive and just use split rings now for the most part...Ben

Mostly the stringease but I'm not too picky.

I really like the corkscrew design, much easier to handle with wet or cold hands. I've had some snaps where I needed the pliers, never a problem with the screw closers. m

Split Ring most of the time, but I also do trust those LARGE stay-loc's, but when I use them, I change them out about every 5 days or so just to be safe.

split rings or #5 Stay-loks, just depends on what i'm throwin or how long I plan on using a certain bait on a particular rod.

I use stringease for the bigger tackle and crosslock for the regular cranks. Yesterday one of the stringease came undone, but not completely, it opened from the main lock, but the bend attached to safety ring, that stringease has. And it was a small pike to, my steelleader was also wrecked.

I usually take three rods with, and if I'm not going to change baits much, I use a split ring. In other cases, a stringease.

What size split rings does everyone use? And do you split ring every bait or to just the leader?

I use all Stringease Stay-Loks. I prefer #5 for Muskie-class lures and #4 for Northern Pike/small Muskie lures. I tested them with a couple of large pliers and it took several 180 degree twists before they finally broke. Yeah, they wouldn't open up until they actually broke.

Can't imagine using Berkley Cross-Loks. With two easily opened snap connections, those things pop open with just the slitest twist. I've had 2 lb Northerns open big Cross-Loks up and hitting anything like rocks or the side of the boat can pop them open at any time. Suppose they give a person an excuse to buy more lures to replace the lost ones and could also save film not taking pictures of the lost fish....

i've been using wolverine split rings ever since chad cain turned me on to his method. i like rings over snaps much better, and have never had a failure. i use the size #5 the most, and occasionally the # 6's.

Never had trouble with the stringease stay-locs. I use size 4. I dont' change them very often and have never had them open. I used to do the split ring deal but it was stupid IMO.

Nothing but split rings for the last 15 years. (Bucher rings) To answer Magruter's question, I place a ring on the nose of every bait, #7's for all but the ones which have small line ties, in which I use #5's instead. I am not a fan of Wolverines either, they are too thick and many of the ones I have seen looked sprung. I re-ring every hook hanger with the Bucher rings also. JB

I agree with Jason. Every bait I own has a Bucher Split Ring on it (olive drab color). Split rings are the only way to go. I've seen way too many snaps fail on fish and worn out from use.
