I just purchased a 332 with the external antennae. I did this because I heard there were some problems with the 334 with the internal antennae. Has anyone heard anything about this or have any personal experience with the 334? Looking for advise. I was going with the 334 but am feeling like I may have been talked out of it by one person who may have had a bad unit. Thanks for your input.

I just picked up a 334 a couple weeks ago. So far, no problems; in fact, I love the unit. It's a great option for boats where space is at a premium as those where rigging and mounting a separate antenna would be difficult; but now I have to cover the hole where my old antenna was. The only potential drawback that I can see is the inability to network more than 1 unit using a single antenna. I wasn't planning on doing that anyway.

I just installed the 334 unit. I had heard of problems with the unit and called and checked on it. Apparently, the first 700 units (or something like that number) that came out had some GPS problems with them that have since been fixed. There were particular serial numbers on those bad units (not sure how you get those numbers). I would speculate that any bad unit with those serial numbers that were at any Lowrance dealer would have been sent back to the factory and thus the problem fixed. I like the unit so far, haven't given a true test yet however.

I've heard of several problems with the internal antenna on the 334. If what I've heard was accurate, the antenna is in the screen of the unit, rather than the head of the unit like in an H2O. Because of this, there have been issues of not being able to pick up a signal unless the unit is angled a certain way. I've heard this enough times to where I wouldn't buy one if I was in the market. I would want to wait a year to see if this really is an issue. And if it is an issue, hopefully it's one that will be corrected.

I have a Crestliner 1850 Fish Hawk and it is mounted on the gunnel on a Ram Mount, so it has clear view to the sky. I have heard of problems with reception if you are mounting it in your dash...should have stated that. If you have an open view to the sky, you should be okay.

Sorno's boat is wide open too, so I would think the two of us would be good to go.......

I am also thinking of going the 224 route but I like to angle the scren straight up. I heard it will lose signal then.... if the antenna is in the screen, it shouldn't then..hmmm...

39, the 337 is the same as the 332 except that the 337 has a dual frequncy transducer more applicaple for salt water use.
