Location: Minneconia | Do you have to run 50 weight oil in these? Also, I've had it for two years, would the seals be bad by now? One side is low on fluid but doesn't look like it's leaking anywhere. Anybody serviced these themselves? |

| Mine is a 2001, but I would assume they would be the same. Ranger told me to use SAE 50 oil. After removing the rim/tire, which, you might as well rotate while you've got them off, you will find an "allen screw" on the side of the hub. Use a good quality allen wrench that fits perfectly to remove the screw. Then spin the hub a little until oil startes to drain out into a pan. If you flip it completely upside down, you get the old ketchup bottle effect and it doesn't drain well. Anyway, plan on letting it drain for several hours. Next is how do you get the oil back into that tiny hole? Well I found that an oral siringe, like the ones we give the kids medicine with, works the best. I THINK you are not supposed to fill them completely full, as to allow for some expansion, but not sure on that.
Another item to check is the"Shackles" these are small steel plates about 5" long by1.5" wide and have a bolt hole in each end. They attatch the Leev-springs to the frame. Mine had a lot of miles on them and the holes that the bolts go thru were worn to oblong egg shapes and were VERY close to busting out. My tire was actually starting to rub occasionally on the plywood underside of the wheel well, because there was too much "play" in them. If they would break through, it would wear through that plywood and into your hull in a hurry.

Location: Chicago, Beverly | Thanks MUSKEEZ, it was the Allen screw he stripped out.... had to replace the whole setup I think... his is a 2005..... as I recall he said it does not hurt to give a spray of wd-40 or liquid wrech by the screw before taking off to help loosen a bit... |
