Location: LOTW Canada | Hi, my first post. Can anybody tell me which gps mapping program, Blue Chart or Navionics, is the best (most accurate) for LOTW? I had originally put this on the equipment form but recieved no response there. Thanks in advance. P.S. Great site!

Posts: 906 Location: Warroad, Mn | Both seem to have their problems as far as I've seen. The map detail is good (based on the Canadian Hydrographic charts). However, there is a some error in boat postition in both of them. Both will show you passing over land at times, which as far as I can tell is impossible. They seem to be the best in the center of the lake with more error on both the east and west sides of the lake (probably as you switch from chart to chart). The most accurate GPS location maps of the LOTWs that I've seen are C-Map, but they don't run on Lawrence or Garmin units. Still not bad, I have Navionics and it looks to be about 25-40 yards off to the west. Blue Chart looked to be about the same. This is in the Angle area. Still you had better know where the rocks are to be sure! Doug Johnson Edited by dougj 3/17/2006 4:19 PM

Posts: 906 Location: Warroad, Mn | Just to clarify what I mean by west. The cursor on the screen will show you 25-40 yards west of where you really are. This changes some depending on where you are in the lake. I spent three days with a friend last year who was running a Garmin with a Blue Chart chip, and the error looks to be about the same as what I see with the Navionics chip. Doug Johnson

Posts: 381 | Gator I use the navionics north chip. I know they came out with a new chip for this year, From what I was told it is the same information with more lakes on it! For the most part the navionics has worked the best for me. It is off a little but you just have to remember that! Welcome aboard!

| I have an LMS332c. It is my understanding that the unit has a feature that allows you to correct that error. I haven't played with it enough to try it out. I use the chip mainly for location and general vicinity, once close, I use the sonar. Has anyone attempted to correct the maps with that feature? | |||
