I am looking to go on a one week family vacation on the chip to do a little muskie fishing. Can anyone give me some good recommendations?
Thanks

John what are you looking for in a resort? Do want activities for the kids or are you just going to be fishing? There is a big variety in the resorts on the Chip. Here is a link that has several resorts listed.

John, by family vacation, do you mean you and your spouse? Or do you mean you, your spouse, and some number of children? If your vacation includes children, how old? Would you be planning your trip in spring, summer, or fall? These factors could make a difference in recommendations.

As you look at your options, keep in mind that the Chip is two very different bodies of water -- one East and one West of the Highway CC bridge at Herman's Landing. (Actually it varies quite a bit within those major basins, too.) But in general, if you prefer to fish muskies in darker, tannin-stained water with fewer underwater plants, you'll want to be on the East Side. On the other hand, if you prefer to fish muskies in clearer water with more underwater plants, you'll want to be on the West Side. Action tends to be more likely throughout the day on the East Side because the darker water mitigates the effects of a bright sun. Action tends to be more concentrated near dawn and dusk (and even at night) on the West Side, because intense light can discourage fish activity in the shallows on bright, sunny days. Of course, if you plan to fish deep anyway, this factor does not matter as much. Having spent many family vacations on the Chip when my kids were still young, I know that the times available for fishing depend upon the other interests of your family members. So if the family demands your time during mid-day only, the West Side is a fine option. But if your family will be fishing with you, or if it simply doesn't matter who is doing what, and when, then the East Side becomes a fine option too; and anyplace on the Flowage can provide great musky fishing opportunity. Hope this helps you make a decision...

I think you'll have difficulty getting a reservation for this summer, but you cant beat Treeland's Resort. Great people, great resort.
