Went over the 172 bridge myself today. MAN, AM I JEALOUS! I also saw a guy in a boat fishing the river near doty island on Friday. New tuffy (used, but new to me) is only two weeks away. Thank god I've seen some skunks wandering (a sure sign of spring) and New London's show is coming up!

Well, it is no longer a watch, BUT NOW A FLIPPING WARNING!!!!

Now we are to expect 6"-10" of the white stuff, 20mph winds and the works. Sounds like we will be getting a good one, if you want to call this good.

I guess I should not have said anything on here last night. Now ma nature is really perturbed and decided to make it even worse.

Oh well, what do you do but go with the flow. Can't do anything about it.

So......let it snow, let it snow, let it snow.

I am hoping for another week of icing big punkies and crappies here actually. They finally turned on. I hated the past couple years when everything melted off, rained and the spring flows were done by April 5th. Give me a normal spring warm up, though as Chuck mentioned, it can start any time now...... An extended spring that I can decide to go Steelhead fishing for a couple days, and not be missing the walleye spawn back home will be nice. At least we didn't get the T-Storm blast predicted for Central WI here. A slow even thaw will bode well for the Musky and Pike spawn as well, and we have our fingers crossed for that!!! Anyone crackin' the eyes down by the Dells yet??

I feel your pain Chuck...
Last year my first cast for muskies was on March 13...don't think I'll make it this year as I drilled through 20" of ice there yesterday while on a quest for perch

Now granted, the ice is more like a snow, slush, snow, ice, slush, ice sandwich but it's still 20" thick. Fortunately, it's a reservoir, and as things warm up, and the mountain foothill snow melts, water comes in fast and begins to break it up nicely. I'm still hopefully optimistic for an April 1 start to my season...now if Kevin will only put it in his plan.

my brother-in-law was out Friday, they got 4 nice 17-20" waldos.

lots of boats out there today...not much happening for fish though. the east wind seems to have shut them down yesterday/today. we did tangle with a couple big sturgeon though. first one was 30 minutes without ever getting a look before it broke off. fun fun!

Chuck- I'm all for spring, but I hope it's a wet spring. We definitely need some more moisture down this way. Hope you folk's have enough to refill the Pete & Castle Rock too?

Went to Madison yesterday- Stopped at Dorn's looking for some big hooks for some new Alien rigs, (9/0) treble and 5/0, 7/0 & 9/0 singles > Stopped in Sauk City too (Ace Hardware) no luck there either. Wanted to chat with "Walley", but he was tied up selling shotgun's to turkey hunters. Guess I'll have to order some direct from VMC.

Stopped in WI Dells - River's Edge Resort/Lodge for a late afternoon lunch. Nice place- rustic log with a huge fish tank accross one wall. A couple of guy's came in from the river, they said the walleye's were'nt biting.

I think I & Mike Hofmann "Captain Troll" will probably hit Algoma for some brown's in early April also, Mike is a hardcore salmon & trout guy, although he has been kinda leaning to a bit of trophy walleye, pike & muskies in the last couple of years..(Probably due too my bad infuence) We usually have a blast no matter what we are chasing.....

I think my first muskie trip of the season will probably be on the Petenwell.

Have fun!
Al

Thanks Mike. This cold snap will help me chase punkies and early Pike a few more days anyhow. Luckily Pete was not drawn down as much this year, so it will be easier filled up and hopefully spawned in. Castle Rock on the other hand, seems lower than most years..?.. Maybe to compensate for keeping levels on Pete up a tad. Hopefully next year, knowing they don't need to drop them as much, both flowages will be kept up a bit more. I comend them for what they are doing already!!
