I was thinking of putting together a apinning rod for when my wife goes out with me. Has anyone tried any of the heavier superbraids on a spinning reel. How heavy can you go with the line?

I keep two spinning rods for newbies and non-baitcaster people. Have #80 Stealth on both of them and have had no problems with it. Just keep an eye on the roller on the bail make sure it doesn't hang up or, the line with cut into it and fray the line. Pat

Not trying to sound discouraging or bust your plan but I have found that women seem to learn to throw baitcasters quite easily. In most cases they pick it up faster than a newbie guy will. I believe it's because they don't try to overpower the cast and allow the rod and reel to do the work. Just something to think about. I've seen plenty of women fishermen who can and do handle the same size equipment as the guys do. We're not talking amazons here either (Pat Strutz, Laura Morrison, Karen DiPietro) to name a few that many folks are familiar with.

The weight of the line on spinning reels may not be as critical as how 'stiff' or 'limp' it is. I find the more limp the braided line, the better it spools without a lot of loops and tangles.
