Location: The desert | thanks muskyboy...sorry i should have been more specific with the question......as for going to class I go to class all the time, but I am always on-line and this is usually the only site I have up! I am a fisheries major....this is like education for me!

Take it from a fellow college student (whatever that means), some of the sharpest hooks out there are the Cone Cut VMCs. I've got 'em in 3/0 (cranks) and 5/0 (topwater mostly), and bought a pack of 4/0 Eagle Claw 774s (bucktails). I might get a few 6/0 or 7/0 Cone Cut VMCs or E.C. 774s "just in case." |

Location: north central wisconsin | I second the Eagle Claw 774's(Reef hawg hooks if you don't know the ones I am referring to) in 3, 4, and 5/0. Will work for most of your Musky size lures. Some wide gap round bends from vmc or mustad to round out you collection will get you there. The eagle claws are not easy to find, but very cheap if bought in bulk from some of the hook dealers, and are as sharp out of the box as any out there, and hold their points better than any I have seen when fishing rocks all day. the Eagle Claw Beak hooks are not all bad either though I don't know the number of them. They are sharp, hook well, and hold well. They have been given a bad rap over the years but are actualy very good hooks.

| Eagle Claw has a "Company Store", and they have lots of different hooks from time to time.
I bought a few thousand over the last 2 years. Lately what they don't have in stock, they have been sending to me from a place called Lakeland something or other.
I've been using Lasersharp 374's and 774's. The weight of the hook actually helps me to balance lures at time. Where I need more weight I use the 774, less weight, the 374's.
You can buy in quantity, or get together with your buddies and bulk up, or even get a break if you buy 50's.
For most cranks, 2/0 and 3/0.
Gliders 3,4 and 5/0.
Top waters, the biggest hooks that you can get away with. Usually 5/0's.
Since I make it a practice to cut a lot of my hooks, I always keeps 50 of each size, from 2/0-5/0 in the boat with me.
