Do any of you successfully weight your 10" Jakes for better action and better castability? I like trolling them but can't stand all the cartwheeling and leader hangups that go with casting them.

have you tried cooking oil yet? I don't know if it will keep it from cartwheeling but it sure gives it a different action.

Baldy started a thread about weighting cranks and 10" Jakes are discussed. Use the search function and "Weighting Cranks" by Baldy.

I weight-to-suspend both Grandmas and Jakes, but not for castability. I don't think weighting them will solve that problem. But maybe so.

Todd Forcier is my official weighter. He has taken the time to xray the baits and does some internal weighting on them. If I am not mistaken, TroyZ's was done by Todd also. These baits are the most amazing finesse cranks out there, they look incredible.

If you can get an answer out of Todd you will have the right one, but sometimes he doesn't like to share that secret!

Norm the ones I have are oil weighted, I have been playing around with these for sometime now. It is pretty simple is just drill a small 1/8" or so hole on top of the jake, I go a little of center due to the seam from the injection molding. Then take a small surenge full of cooking oil, fill jake, place in sink of water, until she slightly rise or nuetral. Once desired amount of oil is in the bait little epoxy, small panhead screw and she is ready. Also once on the water you can add or remove oil and play with its action. You can also do this on 6" models. I have seen Todd forciers, and hope to have some weighted by him and compare how the work, I know his action requires alot less effort.

Good luck
