Anyone here have any experiences to share on fishing the English River system in NW Ontario. I have the possibility of fishing it this summer and was wondering if anyone would recommend it? Looks like mostly a walleye trip, but I understand there are musky in there as well. Thanks

Would this be on the West or East side of Lac Seul? I know the river flows out of Lac Seul in Ear Falls Ontario. Great pike and walleye fishing in this area. Let me know.

I went to Seperation Lake(part of the English River System) last May. I was hoping to chase some larger pike but it never happened. The big girls were lazy. They'd follow but by the time they even got close there'd be 4 or 5 snakes all over whatever you threw. Caught walleyes at will, some big ones. The smallmouth action was slow.
Resort owner swears to me that they see muskies every once in a great while up there but it's rare. Huge water and reefs in the middle of bays that come out of nowhere. If I wasn't up there with people who have fished it for years I would have had prop/lower unit issues for sure. The map that the resort gives out was no good for navigation and every bay looks the same.

Good luck!!

West side has great walleye and pike fishing, and muskies are in Lac Seul all over the system. I have never fished the East side but have heard muskies are in there

Steve,

Unfortunately I havent come across any muskies on the West side of lac seul (by Ear Falls) We fished as far southeast as broad and sunlight lakes and west over into the south inlet. I would imagine they're available in small numbers but don't see why they wouldn't start becoming more common. Plus the river flows from east to west so it would make sense for them to travel down stream. I would love to come across a fatty casting for pike!!!

Ive fished the river and the lake chain that ends in Unexpected Lake and begins on Wegg, I think, and did pretty well. We saw quite a few nice fish and caught a couple. It's NOT a muskie trip, but the big pike were willing and plentiful, so any muskie there was a target. Never fished for bass, but did real well on the walleyes.
