Location: Kawarthas, Ontario | I'm not 100% certain, but I believe that the halves aren't actually "glued", but rather "welded". The chemical (methylene chloride I think) used to join many platics 'melts' or welds the two plastics together. Whether or not that is the right chemical I think that is the process. |

I have welded, glued, or bonded,( whichever term prefered) thousands of ABS and butylrate ( spelling? )plastics together and have tried many blends of acetone, lacquer thinner, and Mek ( Metylethyl Ketone) and ended up using the MEK straight due to speed and strength of the bond. You have to be careful with the MEK and vent it well and it only takes a couple seconds of "soaking" the halves edges to get the strong bond. It will melt the plastic rapidly if you leave it soak too long. Kind of a "learn as you go thing"
The suff is nasty to say the least . Don't smoke or cause sparks around it as it has a low "flash point', and like I said, VENT well.

Location: Kawarthas, Ontario | From what I understand of th enature of the chemicals involved it's also a good idea to wear goggles to protect your eyes. Some of the welding agents are extremely hazardous if they come in contact with your eyes. |
