Does anyone know anything about this email that is floating around.

During the club X-mas party last night, Ron Skala announced to everyone that he received an e-mail Saturday afternoon about a new State Musky record from the IDNR. In this new year, a guy from the Central Illinois Muskies Inc. Chapter caught and released a 59 1/2 inch musky on the main lake in Shelbyville. This was not a spillway fish. The fish was caught on a pearl colored Grandma jerkbait. More details about the fish will be released to the press.

Haven't heard anything at the store about it, but that don't much. If it is true Chef Todd will probaly sniff it out and get some info. As I type the Chef is calling me asking about scoop. He just heard it from the sports writer, who has been getting emails all morning. This could be CRAZY!!! A hell of a fish if it is true. Will let you guys know if i find out more.

Not only do I question the length ... but how do you catch & "release" a state record fish???
I thought the fish needed to be harvested in order to do testing on it.

I think it's BS !! You always seem to hear these type of rumors right around the fishing shows.

There are certainly fish that eclipse the state record weight in Shelbyville. maybe fish pushing 50#. However, these shad fed fish grow fast and don't attain the length, as evidenced by the number of 30# fish under 50". If you said a 43# fish came from Shelby, I'd believe you. A 59"? No way. Whith how fat those fish are, a 59" fish would be over 60#.

Ben, What were the estimated dimensions of the beast you lost a few years back? I know all witnesses said it would have been a new record.

I think this was a typo. I believe this was for the longest release in the state for 2005. The fish was 50.5 caught on the main lake by AF. This was no state record fish but the longest green card fish for the year in the state. If I hear otherwise, I'll post.

I was just there Saturday afternoon and was the only one fishing. Every fish in there is chunky, but I doubt it was that long. Easily a musky could come from Shelbyville that breaks the state record.

I thought I heard something about this awhile back and nothing ever came from and it was only 51" or something like that. I don't believe it was a record fish either.

Illinois fish always get overestimated by 10" after 3 people find out. So, if you catch a 50, make sure you tell everyone its 40 so you don't end up with a 60" fish story.

The Illinois DNR will really meet you at your boat to certify a new state record. That is funny since weights taken in a boat while it is rolling about due to wave action are inaccurate. I applaud the effort but I would be very suspect of a record weight that was taken on the water.

BenR, that makes more sense than them "coming out to your boat" as you previously stated
