What new technique did you learn this year that increased your fish in the net? I went shallow-ER, and went to a huge willow bladed spinnerbait in the slop on the dark water to catch more muskies, and learned a bit about suckers and quick strikes from Slamr.

The spinnerbait thing? Under 3' of water, center of the slop, middle of the day up to evening. I was a full casting distance INSIDE where most of the other boats were fishing.

You?

I learned to level, plumb and plane roof trusses. I learned to stack styrofoam block and tie in rebar. And, I learned the difference between a 7 Hip and a 7 Common and when to cut each....

I learned that I don't fish nearly enough.

I learned that I should've replaced my sparkplugs this summer (thanks for the call Mark).

I learned that there's nothing like friends. Both to give a hand to and to count on when you need it. (Hey Todd, next year I'll have room in my boat too.)

Thanks to all.

Scott

1.) I learned to keep my mouth shut, i.e., that talking about or actually revealing your hots spot's on MF is a bad thing. (Reef Hawg you were right!)

2.) I learned why you can't use any old knot to tie Power Pro direct to a flourocarbon leader without a snap or split ring.

3.) I learned how to tie Power Pro direct to flourocarbon without any snap or split ring.

4.) I learned how to really make the Alien do the muskie dance.

5.) I learned how to consistantly catch +30" walleyes in the middle of the main mayfly hatch.

Have fun!

I learned the importance of quick speed bursts and directional changes as triggering techniques.

I learned that trolling from a boat is waaaay more effective than fishing from the shore (but I'm sure ya'll already knew that).

I learned from Steve W. that if you use superbraided line on your spinning rod/jig combo, you will miss too many fish. I learned this long after I missed too many fish! I'm so hardheaded.

My appreciation for jigs and plastics really inceased this year.

I'm fishing spinnerbaits more than ever. Grim Reaper double willow after downsizing the blades.

I've tried to simplify my lure selection and get out on the water more often.

If your partner up front is throwing a glider and getting alot of follows, don't throw a glider too. Throw an erratic fast moving jerkbait and watch his follows eat your bait.

Late fall at dark, countdown, drag and pause a spinnerbait. New to me, tried it and so far it works.

Spoonplug a fuzzyduzit, Count it down, drag and jerk it and let it sink pound the crap out of the bottom. I tried it some this fall it will produce I know.

Topwaters in the fall, they love da rat and big walk the dogs like the 9" shad glider from hoosire hand made and the weagle.

Fishcrazed and I put 2 nice fish in the net jigging Fuzzy Duzzits off the bottom in 20-30ft of water. As ToddM and others have said, "It works!" (and has for years. It's just new to us)

Another thing:
If you think the fish are there, and you want to catch them, COVER that water from at least two directions. I actually went to three, outside edge casting in, inside edge fan casting, and right down the middle, fan casting. I caught a number of fish this year on the second or third pass.

I learned
How to chuck dead suckers at people who cut us off in the middle of a drift. thx slamr!!

That muskie fishing is VERY hard (didn't catch a fish in the last 2.5 months of the season)

I have an understanding wife.

I have to redo my monthly budget to include muskie tackle

I once again learned the muskies are either deep, shallow or somewhere inbetween.
I need learn to fish the whole water column, not just the weedline/ breakline. I spent alot of my summer fishing the deep weed edge on a new lake only to learn in Oct, the muskies on this lake like the slop < 5fow. Be more versatile.

Snap Jigging the Weagle when targeting trophy muskys. Basically, use the boat to violently swing that lure side to side and just keep it there in the slots and pockets of the slop weeds.

Reminds me of a song, "Anticipation" for some reason...

I learned:

--how to hold the rod up so that I don't get the bait caught in the weeds.

--how to put my thumb down on the line so that I don't get a backlash.

--how to properly net a fish.

--how to 'work' a bait.

--how to climb back into the boat after falling out (yes, it runs in the family).

Might sound like lure adds but don't mean to be, just the fact cat's, just the facts!
: )

Had lots fun an success learning how to REALLY work a Triple D.
Amazing lure.
Still more things to try I have been told to use in '06.

Grinder can do things deep in the goop other lures can't.
Musky simply hate them moving around down deep in their house!

My big black Lund rig always tests me in my boat control areas and that is always a blast.
I always WIN!

Smiling & Listening still works wonders every time to calm really crabby people who bring thier world along in the boat. Putting them on fish helps, but not the only thing they seem to be looken for.

New M&G 's are to me just as good as older ones.
Fast, Slow, high, low....CHOMP!
Feel really comfortable about using them anytime & any place seeing how I can replace the crumpled messes and lost ones.

I never tire of taking photos at sunset.

Llungentails were totaly new to me in 2005 and I had fun figureing out the in's & outs of them.
Super baits for sure.

When the wrech drops into da drink dock side in 38 degree water, let it GO!

AP Lures are FOR REAL!
I feel very good about those offerings.
Simple is best working them for me.
Fast, slow, rest, roll all add up to NICE FISH DUDE!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Trust me if you will, fish dig'em.

Taking a few minutes to sit down, pop a pop, think and talk it over with clients, friends or my hounds when things get tough really dose produce.
Tough it tough, but they got to eat sometime.
: )

Lowrider is a fave and seems to get the tough fish to CHEW boat side when we speed them up and drop them down into doing DEEP underwater 8's or Run Round DA Boat Tommy's!
LOL X 100000
Good stuff Meanerd.

FAT BOY can rock, right place right time.
Fish really zero in on it and simply destroy it at rest.
WHACK!

Second choice areas or even third choice do produce if you know what you fishing.

Weagles really do work.
A little heavy for me this summer, but have a few ideas for 2006 that I feel will pay off.
I will for sure work the paint of them suckers!

Time and again my Dinner Bells from Bluefox got tore to shreds.
Cool thing is if you buy say 8 lures of mixed patterns and you can bust split ring, add new one an instantly have a huge slection of lures to mix & Match.
RE-WIRE, Add quick Change clevis and you can go from Willow to French to what ever you wish.
Slow Burn can be deadly over dem rocks up west.

It aint about the money fer sure.
Helping people learn how to find fish on our lake, then show them how I might go after them is a gas.
Having them roar up to me days later with photos is simply the best.
Listening instead of yapping keeps my mind sharp also.
Those who know me know that is a LARGE QUEST all in itself.
: )

Mom, Bonnie Jean and our hounds Homer J, & Barney Toonder are the best.

Nice to have a new shoulder this winter.
I can have some fun doing all I missed last winter...
Off to play in da snow!
