I'm preferably looking for Spike-It worm dye, but Thorne's has the same thing in an aerosol can. Has anyone used this stuff to paint whole baits, like plastic lures? Thanks.

I found some of the aerosol on clearance at Gander here in Appleton. It had a nasty garlic smell to it, and it was a crappy paint. Even if you get the non- scented stuff, you won't be able to do any detail with it. I'm gonna experiment with my air brush and the Createx Auto air that I paint my baits with, today. I'll be fishing it tomorrow, and let you know how it worked.

I painted it up, and it looks cool, but you can rub the paint off with your finger. Back to the lab again.

Thanks, man! I wasn't looking to do any detail, all I want to do is take one solid colored bait and make it darker (same color). Would this stuff get the job done? I think I'm going to try it anyway.

I guess it would, in several coats. Do not get the scented stuff, unless you have a sinus disorder, and enjoy fishing alone. LOL

I recently started air brushing my lures using Createx. After the paint has dried I brush on a coat of Devcon 2Ton Epoxy using a small paint brush. Then use a hair drier to heat the epoxy to slightly thin and release any air bubbles. Hang the lure and turn it every 10 minutes or so until the epoxy sets to prevent sags. Clean the brush with Lacquer thinner. You end up with a good clear coat that should last for a while.

You should be able to find Devcon at any Wally Mart.

Yes, devcon for hard baits, but I do not think it would be a good idea for the soft plastics that we are talking about.
