Posts: 459 Location: New Baden IL | Hey guys, just spent a weekend on Kinkaid dragging bullheads behind the boat. They worked out super, but the muskies didn't seem too impressed. I picked up the fish Saturday night, and they all stayed alive except for one, and I think I put a hook into it's belly by accident while rigging it up. They look like they would get bit, but we didn't have any success. I think it might be a bit too warm yet for it, but I was wondering if any body out there has ever tried it, and had any success. Posts: 1438 | Don't know about down in Illinois, but up here in Wisconsin if you you are going to use a gamefish (panfish) as bait it has to be caught by legal methods on the same lake (I think). You can't buy them somewhere and use them or catch them somewhere else and transport them. Can anyone else confirm that? Scott Edited by theedz155 11/2/2005 5:25 AM

Posts: 459 Location: New Baden IL | I checked into it here, and it's legal to use them for bait, if you catch them in the same water you are going to use them. I think bullheads are considered rough fish anyway, so it shouldn't be a problem. These things just wouldn't die, I was amazed at how tough they were. The first one I tried rigging up clamped down on my buddy Mike's finger...he cried like a little baby and I laughed!!! Sorry Mike. If they will hit a sucker will they hit a Bullhead? Rod

Posts: 7038 Location: Northwest Chicago Burbs | Muskies eat....suicks, bucktails, and rigged creatures (all effective lures, that really DONT look like a fish).....I'd have to go with the old adage by Doug Johnson, "if it moves, its food". Also, be happy you're catching your bait versus buying it, $4.25 a sucker is just no fun.

Posts: 140 | Cried like a baby?? I think not. However, it was a fantastic show watching Rodney get nervous as the bullhead dove for the bottom time and time again. He was just hoping to set hooks into something that day as he blew a 34" first thing in the morning on a figure 8. Only fish we saw. He was definitely on edge the whole day. It'll happen sometime and those things are virtually industructable. Mike

Posts: 434 Location: searchin for 50 | Hey if your willing to try bullheads for bait, you should try a burbot . That is if you can get a hold of any. Fishing a few years back with Herbie we gave it a shot and did they look awesome. Only thing is got to keep them up off the rocks or its like trying to pull a dragon out of its cave
