Posts: 699 Location: Hugo, MN | There are at least 8 top notch Muskie lakes in the Metro Area plus several less pressured Tiger Lakes

Posts: 670 Location: Otsego, MN | Where else in the nation can you choose from so many lakes in a beautiful metro area and have chances at 50 inch fish in probably every lake???? Probably no where. The DNR has done a wonderful job with the fishery, the fishing is outstanding!! jeff

I live in the north metro and have 1 lake 1 mile away, 1 lake 4 miles away, and another 7 miles away. Do the math and I have 3 lakes within 7 miles that I have no doubt I have a legitmate shot at a 50 every day I hit any of those lakes. Thanks MN DNR !!!

Posts: 32935 Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | My son lived in Little Canada over there for the time he was in college there. The fishing was good, if a little crowded, and there were plenty of different opportunities for water within an hour, which sometimes can be 30 miles there with the traffic.

Posts: 17 | there is no metro area in the country like minneapolis/st.paul. it is not uncommon to fish minnetonka and have a 3lb average bass catch for the day. it also has a very healthy muskie fishery, my largrst caught there was a fat 48". the lakes within the city of minneapolis are also very good lakes. they are all no motors allowed lakes, you can only run your electric. if i remember right, at one time, i think that the state record tiger came out of calhoune or harriet. it was a 30lb fish and it was on the local news. you can't leave the river out either. the mississippi splits the 2 cities and there is great fishing from coon rapids to south st. paul and beyond. you can catch smallmouth bass, walleye, carp, catfish and be in the shadows of the downtown minneapolis buildings.

Minnetonka is Highly recomended by the purple! If you suck on the field, at least you can drink it off at night. Seriously, the metro fishing is awesome. There is everything you could ask for, from muskies and walleyes to trout and catfish. We got it.

Not to nit pick but the MN state record tiger was out of Lake Elmo and was bigger than 30# if I am not mistaken.

For a long while, the State record Tiger was Calhoun. Then, a few years ago, it was broken by a fish out of Elmo...that fish was 34 pounds and some extra ounces... No doubt nice fish in many of the metro lakes. Steve

Now that the secrets out about our area musky fishing we have to change the name of the lakes again. The feedbag is on for the big ones. The other day I was out on Lake *&^$#% and after a fantastic morning of three cows in the boat, I decided to break open my lunch cooler. I laid my ham samwich down just long 'nough to open a soda and all heck broke loose. When the boat quit rocking I reached for my................holy crap!!!..............a hunk of gunnel was missing along with my samwich !!! Now I heard of this happening up nort but not in downtown Minneapolis for Peters sake ! There's no wonder they stopped water skeeing last July when those Labs came up missing.
