Weagle or Magnum Hawg Wobbler
Then Kilr Eel or Magnum Bull Dawg
Then Jig A Beast

Then come back at her during favorable conditions.

thats if you dont loose your jig-a-beast huh steve....lol
actually i like using something with a slow and suttle aproach like a sluggo or a killer eel
or a lindy's giant tube. just toss it back in the direction that she went off too. and coulnt it down and then work it slowly also a bulldawg is a good one too for doing this.....bill

This is an interesting post and made me think if I even HAVE a go-to bait after a follow. I think I continue to throw the same lure the fish followed, with the thought being the fish already showed interested in that lure.

Maybe I need to try something different. I'm curious as to other people's reasons for changing lures and how you make that decision.

The idea behind changing the lure is based on the principle that the fish produced a response to the stimulous from the lure it followed that was not what is desired, so using the same bait might then, if one follows the norm, get an even less attractive response. Changing the lure changes the stimulous, which MAY change the response and get you a fish pinned up.

The percentage is still very low on getting that fish to hit the second time, I try the same bait but change-up the action, instead of trying to change rods. Always make that first figure "8" COUNT. or hope she smokes the meat hanging over the side!!!!!

Semi-tangent.

How many of you have had a fish hit the same bait she followed on the 2nd or 3rd cast? There's a good story about this in MOTS, but I am thinking hard and don't believe I've ever had a fish hit the same bait she followed on a subsequent cast.

I've had them hit on a completely different bait.
I've had them hit on a smaller version of the same bait in the same color.
I've had them hit on a larger version of the same bait in the same color.

But I don't think I've ever had the fish decide it didn't look good the first time, but great the 3rd time.

I tend to down size, usually to a neutrally weighted glider or twitch bait. Something that will hang in their face. More times than not, I'll leave and come back an hour later.

It's dependant on the mood of that fish. Had them go completely berserk after a bait and miss so I went back with the same bait and connected. If it's more of a lazy follow on a faster moving bait, i.e. bucktail, I'll go with something that gives a little more hang in the face of the fish. If the fish came from deep I'll try to go with something that gets down quicker, mag dawg, spinnerbait..something that sinks. If she came in from higher in the water column it's a creeper or loud propbait.

Do I do this all the time? No way..Ideally I would if I was quicker swapping rods out but if there is a fish hanging around the boat you aren't going to catch the thing with nothing in the water for it to eat. So 9 times out of 10 I'll toss back the same bait that moved it and work it slightly different...faster, slower, deeper, etc. Just changing it up enough to give the fish another thought about that meal.

What do you guys use as a toss back when they follow a plastic? I have had a lot of fish following Dawgs this fall, I have been throwing back a Kill'r eel and working it real slow. No success so far. Suggestions?

weighted 8" bob (bobbie bait) - the "hang" drives um crazy - one of my lower hooking% baits, but best thing I found this summer on Lotw getting followers to eat!
