Be sure, that when you go trolling with your buddy on Wednesday night, that you snub yer drag back up tight when you go out the next time casting. (stupid fish). Oh yeah, and when you take a newbie out musky fishing, you explain to him the proper way to set the hook when you got a fish on the meat rod. (stupid walleye fisherman, hahaha)

Great tip , Muskie Mike and I were in Rhinelander earlier this year and had the same thing happen to me . I had a monster drill my bulldawg , set the hook and there was nothing there !! I reeled down as much as I could , thumbed the spool and let her have it again , a couple of head shakes and she was gone . Thought I was going to cry or puke , or both !! Trashed mt bulldawg and my mental state , I replay that in my head all of the time and want to slap myself harder everytime !! Antway , good tip , CHECK YOUR DRAG !!!

Me too, only it wasn't the drag, it was me, unconsciously doing a bass-sized hookset. Just hard enough to shred up a brand new mag dawg, and not hard enough to get hooks in the fish. All I could say was--- In fact, every time I thought about that fish that day I said ---.

Good news:
Went up to Green Bay Wednesday night to fish with my buddy that is a guide. He has a Ranger, with a 325 horse motor on the back. Can you say SCARY FAST!? We were doing like 62 mph, and he didn't even open it all the way up.
Bad news:
We lost 2 muskys and 2 walleyes that night.
Good news:
I had Monday off of work.
More good news:
So did my 2 buddies, and one of them owns a boat.
Even more good news:
We went up to Rhinelander to fish muskys.
Even better:
4th cast, I tie into a good one.
Bad news:
When I was trolling Wednesday night, I loosened up my drag.
More bad news:
I forgot to snug it back up tight for casting.
Even more bad news:
I could not set the hook good enough into its bony mouth, and, yes, it got away (stupid fish are gonna drive me to drinking) (no, that's not fair, everything drives me to drinking).
Good news:
My buddy nails a fish (36", and an AWESOME net job by me, I might add).
More good news:
I got a follow!
Ok, time to change lakes.
Bad news:
I really want to fish MY lake, but the boat owner does not want to fish water that big.
Good news:
The lake we go to has only one launch, at a resort, and the fee to launch is $3.00. I go to pay, and they say, go ahead, we won't charge you.
More good news:
5th cast, HIT BABY!
Bad news:
Missed her.
Good news:
She hit the sucker we had behind us!
Bad news:
We decided that the "virgin" to our sport that we had along should do the honors. He set the hook like he was Crappie fishing.
Time to change lakes again.
Bad news, we still have not gone to THE lake I REALLY wanted to fish.
Good news:
We hit a lake that the boat owner knows real well (I still wanted to hit MY lake).
Good news:
While retrieving the sucker to move to another spot, A PIGGY follows the sucker to the boat. NICE FISH, HEY.
Bad news:
it swims off.
Good news:
I pitch it back out that way.
Better news:
It nails the sucker.
Bad news:
Swing and a miss.
Worse news:
The drive 2-1/2 hours back beating myself up for not tightening up that derned drag, hey.
Good news:
I'm fishing a tourney with my guide buddy and pro staffer on the 29th of October.
Better news:
I got to spend the day with 2 awesome people in the boat (Thanx K-Bob and Matt! You guys kick butt!)
The end?

Thanks Rob for netting my fish. It was a great net job. The fish had one hook in it right on the edge of the lip. You scooped it up tail first. Good thing it didn't take a run then. Hopefully we can get out again before the season is over.
