My friends and I are going to be on LCO and Grindstone for a week in early September. Any areas on the lake(s) we should target? We have never fished it and were hoping for a little help. We are staying at Anglers Haven. Thanks in advance.

I just got back from both lakes. I will tell you these are not good lakes for musky numbers but there are big fish in these lakes. You definetly need a map. The Hot Spots map works fine for both. I would try trolling (yes, it's legel on both) first to find the structure then cast if you find fish. Both these lakes can be good for suspended fish, you just need to find baitfish on you sonar. Do not stray too far from deeper structure when fishing suspended fish. Spots to try on LCO would be the Ring Bars, Elto Bar, Rock pile off Ashland point, Mocassin Point, Kentucky bar in Chicago Bay, Center Bar and Deep center bar. On Grindstone, try Center bar (very good!) and Kentucky bar. Please report back on how you did. Say hi to Bruce and Sarah for me. Also, ask Bruce to tell you the story about the new 65lber. that is hanging over the bar. Later, MuskyTom

Staying at Anglers you're at the right end of the lake. There are many more stops on that end than the other. Grindstone and LCO do connect via the Grindstone creek, however lake levels are down and you probably won't be able to get your boat through. I had to get out of my 15' Lund last weekend and pull it through. You'll probably have to trailer it over. Otherwise, MuskyTom follow MuskyTom's advice about the maps. JTM

In the past, during September we have caught some real nice ones in Stuckey Bay. A method that has worked well for me there is getting your boat into about 3-4 feet of water and casting deep while running the shorline. We've hit some nice ones chasing our lures up the breakline on eagletails (brown hair/gold blade) and glide baits

Just got back and LCO was awesome! I only managed one 34" musky but wow that lake is nice. I can see how it has produced some of the biggest muskies ever. Anglers Haven was even better than I imagined. The people who run that place are first class!! I have never felt more welcome anywhere. One of the best fishing trips of my life. Thank you everyone for the help!! I will go back anytime.

That's great that you had some luck on LCO. Its a tough lake to fish, but beautiful body of water. Did you see many other fish? I was up last weekend, but wasn't able to fish LCO because of the winds and waves.

JMenard, I caught a lot of decent pike with the biggest being 30 inches. I was suprised at how many pike are in there. I should of taken some of the smaller ones for a fish fry. I didnt see any other fish (muskies) besides one on the surface. It was thrashing around like crazy. I headed the boat over towards it and got a nice view of it. HUGE!! It went at least 50+ inches and was headshaking like crazy. My buddy and I figured it must of hit something close to the surface and was sitting there on top tearing it up. The wind was rough the last day we were there. I was hoping for better luck but the 34" incher helped. It was only my second fish of the year.
