Posts: 7090 Location: Northwest Chicago Burbs | Whenever this question is asked, its always done in terms of overall numbers, or general approach. What specific tactics do you plan on trying anew, or improving on for your 2005 season? For me: -fish more shallow flats -fish more smaller baits -twitch more, glide less -concentrate more on boat control -open up the bait selection in the boat from 8 to about 15 -perfect the use of the J-Mac style jig -experiment with creatures.

Posts: 2515 Location: Waukesha & Land O Lakes, WI | Spend more time looking for suspended fish, troll more and work at slowing my presentations, especially early in tournys, I'm retrieving way too fast and not being consistant with my pauses with my gliders.

Posts: 5874 | This year, when casting inland lakes, I am going to jig fish. I need to just do it. Heck, that's what I do 1/3 of the time walleye fishing. So, I'm going set myself up with the right equipment, get some jigs and plastic, and learn this. Define, and refine, my presentations on the Bay of Green Bay. Get that pig Kyle and I saw a bunch of times at Sab Bay Outing! Maybe even take a swipe at that waterplow Gregger raised! hehehe

Posts: 39 | I would like to get myself to fish later into the night. I would also like to use more rubber baits. I have been trying to learn at least 2 new lakes each year and would like to keep at that also. I need more work on boat control, and in general would like to be a better fisherman at years end. I have much to learn. Dennis

Posts: 152 | Do more night fishing, concentrate on bigger fish and less on numbers, spend more time up north when the water is to hot here and when I am not up north work on Walleys here. Not get married again, four times is enough! Later

Posts: 20254 Location: oswego, il | Shep, I hope you get that fish1 What a memory that would be. I want to put my kids on a bunch of fish. Same with my grandfather and my mom. Fish with more people. I say that every year but I need to do it. Weather, weather, weather. Please, please oh please, keep giving me these mild summers. A summer heat wave will ruin the fishing. Conversely, I want better weather when I go up north. 25-35mph winds don't cut it. Neither does 61 degree water temps in august.

Posts: 2091 Location: Stevens Point, WI | Now that I have a better boat, my improvement goal is to fish bigger water for bigger fish. Follow all the tips I learned from "Muskie's on the Shield."

Posts: 32934 Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | I guess a mark of an old guy is fewer improvement goals and an increase in just plain 'being there' goals. I have a reproduction coming of one of my Goon supertankers, a goal I finally allowed myself to complete. I want another. Bad. That will be the goal. Another is to spend more time on the water with my friends and my wife, Beav, get your back healed up, or just come up and ride along, you can talk me near deaf anytime you want. I don't figure I'll ever break my persoanl best, if I do, I'll be surprised. I'd like to try, though.

Posts: 1310 Location: Washington, PA | Apply some current theories that my crazy little mind has come up with over the winter. And I'm also adding about another 10 miles of river to my normal fishing spots. Time to do some exploring. And I want a fitty. And I want one of those goon monsters....and I want shamu on eagle. Wait, this is more like a christmas list than a goal.

Posts: 127 Location: NW burbs of Chicago | I'm just curious, as I've fished with several of you who have posted on this. Looking back so far this season, how many of you actually accomplished your self-improvement goals or made a concious effort to fish differently? I just know from myself, when I am unable to do something, I can make all the plans I want, but how many of you, once you get on the water and are in the heat of the moment fishing, make a concerted effort to apply the things you've read about or thought about? Posts: 7090 Location: Northwest Chicago Burbs | -fish more shallow flats (yes, not much success - unless you count weedlines adjacent to shallow nothingness, in which case, see the front page) -fish more smaller baits (have done it, popped two little girls early, but nothing really since. been dealing with less back pain because of it, and makes me a happier boat partner) -twitch more, glide less (not twitching much since early season, but I'm gliding very rarely, see the above point about my back) -concentrate more on boat control (getting there, and I think I'm getting more fish because of it. Slowing down alot, and making sure I cant possibly miss the spot on the spot on the spot, but the fish arent totally jiving with me on it) -open up the bait selection in the boat from 8 to about 15 (done it, and its annoying, too much bait changing, need to reverse course on this one) -perfect the use of the J-Mac style jig (more of a fall goal, need to get on it) -experiment with creatures. (big zero on this one) I suck this year overall, but come fall.....I'll still probably suck, but I'll be COLD instead of super hot.

Posts: 32934 Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | I guess I'm at about 35% so far, but the entire Fall season is ahead of me! Just one sorta nice fish on the Goon ( I didn't see the tape, Jack insists she was 51, I had a blood spot on my shirt that was from the tip of her her jaw while I held her middle and her tail was brushing the floor that measured 49.5 straight line to the ground) but that aint no Goon supertanker, it's just another fiddy out of that muddy 'ole water. More time with Sue, Check. More with friends and family, check. But not enough. Not anywhere near enough. I broke the mold alot this year, and it payed off nicely, but I've had the dropsies alot too.

Go barbless on most of my lures. No out of water photos. No measuring. Catch a fish on a new body of water. Get a new lake stocked in MN for 2006. So far so good on all.
