| I have an older 1988 Tuffy Marauder. The hull has the usual dock rash, scratches and scrapes. What would it cost to get it redone professionally? Would I have to go with a gelcoat or could I just fill and paint it with marine paint? Steve, can I get decals? Do you have paint codes? I'm thinking on a restore project this winter both inside and the hull. Esoxmd did a great job on the inside of his last year and the boat looks new again. I'd love to do the same to mine. |

Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | The boat is gel coated for color, so paint is not an option unless it is two part epoxy and the hull is carefully prepared. It will not be possible to match gel coats exactly, and the weathering that undoubtably has occurred in 15 years will cause the color to be lighter. I'd buff the hull with a wheel, a powerbuffer, and polishing compound, than use color restorer and a good carnuba first, that's a morning's work. |

| Start with Heavy compound as Steve says. Be careful not to create to much heat when buffing or you will change color again.
If buffing doesn't work a light wet sand. Start with 1,200 wet then work your way down to 600. If you get them out work your way back up to get a good finish. Then buff and wax.
If that doesn't work and the scratches are deep you may need to spray with gel-coat. If its a flake finish this can be tricky. You may want to leave that to someone who's done it before.
You can get colored gel if you need to match from Spectrum colors and possible tints to try and match if its a solid. Tuffy might have the gel also.

| Thanks guys! I think I'll try buffing it good first. I do have some gelcoat that the previous owner had if I don't get the scratches out. The inside will be a good project after deer season is over. |
