This is a picture of a fish reported to have been caught at Rayburn. It is a pending Sam Rayburn Lake Record and BAA World Record
Alligator Gar...8'2", 244.5 lbs and 44.75" girth. OK, if that followed a surface bait to the boat i'd liquify, right there.

Whoa is right!

Not real sure that would fit in the Beckman....I'm thinking the Lifetime Guaranteed yoke wouldn't take it! LOL!

That's freakin' huge!

What do you do with that thing now? Skinmount?

Fillet it!! Alligator gar is supposed to be pretty tasty. You can get a couple nice size boneless fillets from a fish of that caliber

ME Too, ME TOO

My brother has gon a few times with his bro-in-law fishing for stergeon on the Columbia river. They target the 42-60 inch (only size you can keep). I keep reading about the 12 footers that get hooked and they have to fight it for hours. Man... I want to do that. I'd like to feel my fingers bleed. I've heard of guys who, after hooking one of those prehistoric monsters, jump into one of those float tubes and have someone on the boat hand them the rod. They get towed around forever by the 10 ft fish while fighting it. Sounds fun in a wacky way doesn't it?

I used to fish alligator gar back in the '50s on the White River in Arkansas with my father. We'd seine the drainage areas for carp, cut them in half, put them on a LARGE treble hook with 18" of heavy line attached to a 3' section of bamboo pole. Then we'd throw 8-9 of these out into the bayous, sit on shore and watch for the poles to start moving. We'd shoot them with arrows, also. Then some years later, plastic jugs were used and the hooks were attached with a large O ring. Instead of shooting them, you'd just catch up to the jug, and snap it to your salt water rig. These fish FIGHT! High jumps, drag ruining runs, everything you could want in a fish. At that time people just killed them all....threw them up on the banks of the river to let them die. Thought they were eating too many game fish. Now they wish they had them back. One of the truly great sport fishing experiences. Watch out for those teeth!!
