Posts: 544 Location: Alsip, Il | I will be heading up there Sept.3 through the Sept. 10, I have never fished that area, does anyone have any advice? Reefs, stay away from weeds, etc. Thanks, Al

| I fished this for several years in the hot summer w/90 degree weather/calm/clear skies everyday. I have always wanted to get back there in September - you are doing this right. It should be a great to go up there this next week. We were staying just West of Highrock Island Sanctuary Resort. East Channel Buoy E48 and E48 just West of the Channel and mostly South a 1/4-1/8th mile SW of those buoys is an area they call the "Garden" - full of rocks and weeds. That holds fish. We relied on the Ontario Govt maps - which were excellent. Also if I had a commercial map or GPS embedded moving map - I would be a bit happier so I could compare those to the Gov't maps. If you navigate via the bouys/channels & markers - that is probably the safest you can be on new water. There is serious trouble up there which is the case on many, if not all of the shield lakes. I never banged up my lower unit up there - but took one out and bang up several on Eagle Lake (East arm). ANother spot- if you go down to Boot Bay and fish the mouth into Boot bay and in Boot Bay and then the islands and rock reefs North within 1/2 mile North of Boot Bay that was a good spot as well. One day we took a run from Sanctuary resort all the way down to Sabaskong using the portage device w/rail - we pulled the boat over the rails and got into Sabaskong Bay. That was a long run - we got a fish in Sab Bay but it was mostly a pleasure cruise. Good luck & enjoy! | |||

Posts: 34 | That rail from Sab to Whitefish is something else isn't it!! Pretty ingenious if you ask me. We did the same coming from Nestor, took a pleasure cruise and decided to put the boats into whitefish just for the heck of it. Our original intention was to try for some lakers but ended up just doing some sight seeing.

Posts: 544 Location: Alsip, Il | Geoff, Thanks for the information. I usually fish central lake of the woods in July, but a friend won a trip that was week specific and didn't want to go and ask me if I want it, and of course I Said A Big Yes!!!!!

Posts: 119 Location: Sioux Narrows | I would be trying deep points and reefs and also mouth of bays.Whitefish has so many deep weeds that people are unaware of, so keep an eye on your graph for that, they are key for perch this time of year.I like to throw crank baits, jerk baits and big bucktails this time of year as the this time of year is transtion time water temps are in the low 60's and falling with cooler water temps. Also don't overlook trees, I have been finding fish in the trees, kinda of like large mouth fishing trow a few casts at a tree and move on.Good luck.

Posts: 32958 Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | I have done pretty well right in the narrows in September, fishing from the bridge down the system about 6 miles. I hit the reefs, points, bay primary weed breaks(As Darcy mentioned), and boat houses, and liked the area alot. Fire Island down to Log Bay and the reefs right in the narrows have produced some nice fish for me over the years. For whatever reason, I've never caught a muskie into Regina on the other side of the bridge, no idea why. This one was caught off the reef under the powerlines in the narrows, on the right side off the rock piles. Good spot, I've caught several from that area over the years.
