| A couple weeks ago, I had the opportunity to meet some of the engineers from Daiwa and take them out for a few hours on Mille Lacs.Basically, there is a new Team Daiwa Muskie series on the horizon and the CVZ-300 has undergone some changes.I threw the new Luna 300 on a 7'6" HVY Bucktail rod(prototype).The rod was really impressive and has a much heavier action than the old series.I ended up catching a 41, that struck at the end of a cast.The combo manhandled the fish.The reel has big paddles on the handle , which I really liked.Kudos to Daiwa for doing their homework on the new product and coming to Muskie Country to test it.I just received a couple Lunas in the mail today and will give a full report after some serious use.I haven't been impressed with ANY muskie reel since I picked up my 1st TE, but I think this one may be the ticket.More later. | Steve, any changes to the brake system on the CVZ-300? Mine wants to keep goingg to the "more" setting on it's own. I know the St. Croixs are doing the same thing. check to see if the brakes on the new stuff have a tendency to move out of position on their own after about 3 days on the water. My remedy was to put some oil on the suface where the brake "pads" contact the inside of the reel, hopefully the new stuff is better. Any idea of price on the new ones? |

I will really put them to the test.One will be chucking Mag Dawgs all day(the ultimate test).Here are the specs on the Luna:
-Precision bar stock aluminum frame and side plates
-Centriflex brake system
-5 corosion resistant ball bearings and 1 roller bearing
-free floating spool
-Massive,11-disc drag system with Daiwa's exclusive Fiber composite washers
-Gear Ratio is 5.1:1
-Weighs 12.9 oz.
-Cosmetics include the new handle, all gold color and some porting on the handle and cross bar on the frame.
I've been told it will retail for $239.99, while the rods will be in the $120-$130 range.Availability should be October.Good stuff. Steve |

Location: Holly, MI | Tell me it isn't true!! Will there be an 01 (lefty) available? Nobody should make a medium to high end reel without makeing a left hand version available.
Sounds like a great reel with ability to take major Musky punishment and hold up to the test of time. |

Location: Woodridge, Ill | Dang, one of my best friends is in RND at Daiwa, I am gonna have to hit him up ! They are really on the way of expanding alot of their rod & reels / baits. I have seen some killer stuff in the making. Baits that will blow you away, but not your pocket book. |
