Location: South side | The Central Illinois Muskie Hunters hosted the IMTT qualifying event on Lake Shelbyville. Cash and trophies were awarded for 1st thru 3rd place teams measuring the most inches of fish that were at least 30 inches long. Tournament Chairman Randy Kakara of Streator, and partner John Askins of Central Ill. Guide Service in Manito took first place. John caught his fish, a 32 inch in “skinny” water at 11:30am. Randy also caught his fish, a 41 inch in the back of a bay. It was caught at 1:30. Fellow CIMH members Spencer and Sean Landsman of Urbana took second place. This father son team also caught their fish at 11:30 and 1:30pm. Spencer caught a 36 inch and Sean a 35.
Coming in third was the Nick Nigro and Dale Craine team with a 43 inch fish. Rounding out the field of fish caught was Ron Rodak with a 38.5 inch fish.Fishing a calm lake under a blue sky can be tough. The full moon was inviting, but the lunar tables were certainly proven wrong. These fish did prove again there is a certain time, or window that for what ever reason fish actively feed. A third bite occurred later at about 3pm with the last two fish entered then, and numerous missed opportunities. As tournament chairman, Randy had the duty of sending off the boats in order, and then when everyone else had the first to the spot advantage he made the comment “they have no idea we have divine intervention. As the good Lord said, “The last shall be first”!
