Location: Corning, Iowa | All of my rods are rated for up to 3 oz. What happens if I want to throw a lure that weighs 4 oz.? Will it hit the water like a big stink pickle? Thanks Doug |

Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | I routinely throw lures that are heavier than the blank rating on the rod, it's inevitable with the large baits out there today. As long as you don't try to throw a lure the action plain won't handle, you probably will not have a problem. |

| I'd be careful about how heavy the lure is, I just snapped a St Croix on my last trip trying to cast a lure that was more than what the rod was rated for. Snapped it right in the middle trying to create too much torque with the heavy lure.

| until somebody make a rod rated for about 3 pounds, i will continue to throw my Mag Treat on a rod that is not rated for it...
I feel sorry for the rod when I throw that thing |

Location: Iowa | I am a freak about big baits so I had to invest in a rod that would hold lures rated up to 8 oz....a Lamiglass 8'6" xtra heavy rod...I throw almost all of my huge baits on that rod teamed with a Abu Garcia 7000C3...there is an article in the Esox Angler from the Fall of 2004 Volume 5 Issue 4 Pages 28-33 that talks about rods built for heavier baits...
