Posts: 1996 Location: Pelican Lake/Three Lakes Chain | It has been a tough spring in this area this spring. The fast warm up and extremely unstable weather has made fish a bit skittish. Prior to this week there have been big fish moving but it was tough to get them to seal the deal. This past weeks stable weather seems to have changed things a bit! Boated a 49.75 last night on a Top Raider. This fish was using a weedline adjacent to deeper water, more typical of a summer pattern, than spring. With water temps already into the 70's I would expect this to become even more prevalent each day.

Posts: 1996 Location: Pelican Lake/Three Lakes Chain | Fish are starting to move with a bit more regularity for me now. Bucktails have been the hot bait, Mepps Musky Killers and Marabous doing the bulk of the work. The water is warm, 75 degrees on Pelican last night. That is warmer than it ever was last year. Fish were moving real well until about 6:30, then a front came through and shut everything down. Had one real nice mid to upper 40's fish going after the front came through, wish I would have found her before the weather change because I think she would have gone then. Boom Lake tonight for the Rhinelander fishing league, and then a full week of guiding, I will keep you posted.

Posts: 1996 Location: Pelican Lake/Three Lakes Chain | Some awesome fish moving and eating right now in the Rhinelander area. Fished league last night, our boat did fairly well. We moved 6 fish and caught a 36"er. All of the fish were chasing topwater and bucktails. Fellow league member, Jon Solberg scored huge with a 52"er on a weagle. A very thick fish that was pushing 40#'s in the spring! That fish was chasing a Super Top Raider on its first trip to the boat. Stable warm weather has the fish active. Cover good spots with bucktails and topwater, and keep moving looking for an active fish.

Posts: 1996 Location: Pelican Lake/Three Lakes Chain | Fishing has been good, but a little less consistent than I would hope. We fished about 5 different lakes since my last report, and the key to success for me has been finding the right lakes. You may absolutely blank on one, and move to the next just a mile or two away and find the fish are in a frenzy. Common patterns right now are weededges, and outside the weededge by a cast or two. I have not been able to establish much on rock structure as of yet. Fish are going on every bait imaginable right now. Bucktails have been best, followed by twitchbaits and topwater. There have been a lot of big fish released in the Rhinelander area already this year, and it should only get better.

Posts: 1996 Location: Pelican Lake/Three Lakes Chain | Pelican Lake, I don't know how long this pattern will last because I am quite sure it is mayfly related, but right now it seems like every fish in the lake is concentrated on the steeper windblown breaks heading out to mud. All of the baitfish are out there picking off the mayflies, and the musky are out there too. Points, and the rocks heading to deep water have been the best out here. Cranks, bucktails, gliders and spinnerbaits have been the baits of choice. When the mayfly hatch is over, I would expect some of these fish to move up on the structures to feed, but right now its going on in the open water. Other area lakes, Right now the rest of the area lakes are fishing the way they typically would this time of year. The bigger weed areas are holding a lot of fish, and wind and current will dictate which you should be fishing. Windblown weeds have been the answer for the last two weeks. The fish really seem to be favoring topwater now, about 80% of the fish boated and seen lately have been on either Top Raiders, Super Top Raiders and Weagles.
