Budget: around $100.

Looking for a very user friendly handheld GPS device that has trackplotting capabilities, speed sensor, and most of all - reliablitiy. A couple that I'm looking at are the Garmin E-Trex and the Lowrance iFinder GO2. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

I would wait a little bit longer and save to get a iFinder reg., pro, or H2O. I've used all the brands, ifinders to me are be far the best deal. Q

pay the little bit extra to plus up to one with a hard-drive so you can load different mapsets into it.
i think you can get an eTrex Legend (8Meg hard-drive) for about $150.

I have the Garmin Etrex and love it. It is just the basic in gps units, but it very user friendly and when used in conjunction with a regular ol' map can get you to and from anywhere you want to go. First year I had it was also my first year going up to LOTW. I had no worries. The units with the ability to load in and display maps are really cool, but I have a hard time reading the grayscale ones, theLegend, at a glance (going 40mph, trying to hold a map, your hat, a beer..I mean a coffee, light a smoke and read a gps so you can avoid that rock bar you know is around) If I were to get anything other than the Etrex I would go all out and get a large screen color unit. just my 2 cents.

Don't cheap out on a GPS unit you'll just be pissed you wasted $100 and got only a couple of the features you wanted not to mention it will become obsolete faster. It's just like buying a computer go for one of the top 2 or 3 models and you'll never be disappointed. I bought a GPSMAP 76S 3 years ago and it's still top of the line the only improvement they made is adding color to the new ones. The best place to find a good price is on Amazon.com
