Posts: 2024 | What's happened to Mille Lacs? Does ANYONE have any kind of report (more than "so and so caught X" fish")? Have fish been moving in the northern sand-cabbage flats? Is it Vineland and the southern bays that are seeing action? How about mid-lake stuff? Are fish moving on surface baits, bucktails, jerks, cranks, jigs, 'Dawgs? What's the night fishing been like? How about Vermilion or other Metro/Alexandria/Bemidji-Cass/Brainerd area lakes? Sorry, I'm not trying to rip info loose here. It's just been frustrating trying to get hold of people about fishing reports. Most people can tell me is, "it's been tough." That's fine, but it would be nice to know what you were doing so I or others don't do the same and reap the same rewards. Last year I met up with another boat and we swapped info. I told them we were getting a bunch of follows on hair and spinnerbaits, but that was pretty much it. Well, they went off-the-wall and chucked reg. BULLDAWGS in the nastiest of nasty SLOP (pitch casting in "clear" pockets). What happened? They caught fish because we told them what NOT to do. The second reason I'm asking for a little help is that like some folks, I HAVE to fish with a gameplan. Generally for Canadian trips I start planning 4-5 months in advance. I absolutely hate fishing a lake without any prior knowledge of what in the hell is going on. Thank you.

Seems people are getting more tight lipped about the Mn. lakes to keep all of the folks from WI. and IL. out. I don't blame them. Nothing worse than having to battle a bunch of "hotrodders" looking to find that one fish that may put them on the cover of Esox magazine. My suggestion is don't rely on someone else to do all of the homework. Get out there and give it a whirl. Whether the fishing is hot or not it still beats working!!

Esox50, I agree with Jim. You aren't going to learn anything or be able to figure out patterns if you want everyone to give you theirs all the time. Do your own work and trust your insticts .... you are a good fisherman......Believe in yourself. The reward will feel that much better when it pays off.

Posts: 827 Location: Minneapolis,Minnesota | We have Muskies in Mille Lacs???? Sweet...I'm going out there right now! No fish are biting anywhere. The metro lakes are boiling, I threw a Bulldawg in White Bear last night and all that came back was a jig head with some wire on it.....plastic melted right of it!!!! Steam coming off the lakes....right Jonesi...steam! Go out, figure it out, stick a fatty.....and then post a report about what you did ![]()

Posts: 32926 Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | Tight lipped, huh? To keep the out of state folks away? Mean spirited comment, that one, and all the replys but this one, too. I bet the resorts, motels, and guides don't agree. This gentleman is requesting simple patterns, something to start with. That is not only reasonable, but exactly what hundreds of others have successfully done here for years. Do us all a favor, if you don't want to help this fellow, fine, just go to the next post. Anyone willing to post a few general condition comments on the Big Pond before I call McQuoids and Dave Bentely for a report?

Posts: 829 Location: Maple Grove, MN | Fishing across most of MN has been very, very slow. I was on the Longville area lakes over the fourth and saw one Muskie out in 50 ft of water on one of the lakes and that was it. Its been very spotty in the metro and just getting follows has been challenging. Hopefully it picks up soon or this is going to be a long summer. I think few people are saying much because most are getting blanked a lot these days. It should change at some point though. I hate to admit it, but I stil haven't caught a Muskie yet this year and I've tried five different lakes across MN. Everyone else in my boat has though....

Posts: 2691 Location: Pewaukee, Wisconsin | I am going up for a week starting the 17th of July. The reports I have had is tough bite but some very nice fish have been taken. White big bucktail took a 49.5 x 22 last weekend. I know of a handfull of upper 40's caught on surface and hair. This is not much but all I could find this week. I will be glad to pass along anything I find out this next week.

Posts: 2024 | PK, Herb B, Steve, Mike, Thank you. That is all I was asking for. Also, YOUR posts are exactly why I come here and EXACTLY why I prefer this site over all others. Jim 1 and Jim 2, I don't need a lecture on how to accomplish something on my own. These sites are designed to give fishermen knowledge, the knowledge to succeed in this very insane sport. Oh, by the way Jim 1, I'm from IL.... And next March when you have Cabin fever and want to come fish some of the better IL lakes, I would be more than happy to give you any and all info I've got ![]() Edited by esox50 7/14/2005 10:33 AM

Posts: 827 Location: Minneapolis,Minnesota | Hahahahahaha.....everytime you catch a fish on Lake Mille Lacs thank Dave Bentley for releasing it so you could catch it!!!! Nothing going on man that's all....not trying to keep anything from anyone. Don't mean to be a tight lipped A hole I guess? This is what I know...a buddy of mine stumbled on a fish in Vineland on a Lowrider, someone else caught one trolling open water on White Bear, some other kid raise two fish in 4 days on the north end, a few of the best guides on Mille Lacs if not some of the best musky fisherman in the country have been going days with out catching anything on Mille Lacs....some other guide caught a big fish on Vermillion, another guy got a big one on Miltona, some other guy had a big one die on Miltona, we've seen some dead fish in the metro and I guess they like to die north also and Koepp knows of some fish caught....so figure out a pattern out of that if you want.....or go call Bentley! I'm out!
