Location: MN | Just purchased a new to me Lund with built in tank. There is about 15 gallons of last years gas left in the tank. It was not treated. Seems to run OK. Should I take it out and run it in the lawn mower, or just use as is. The motor is a 94 Merc 75.

Location: Athens, Ohio | If you have to ask, then you already suspect there is a problem. Follow your instincts. You may be able to dispose of the old gas at a used oil recycler or at a household waste day (why gum up the mower motor?). m |

| throw some new gas and some SeaFoam in there and run it out. shouldnt hurt.

Location: Eau Claire, WI | I'll second what Baldy said. Bad gas has a certain odor to it, you'll know it if you ever smell it, almost like turpintine.
Add a can of Seafoam, fill the tank and run it down to 1/4 tank and from then forward always ensure you use a fuel stabilizer. Additional additives you may want to cosider once or twice a season depending on how much you use your motor are: Seafoam, for fuel system and top cylinder cleaning and lubrication. Ring-Free to help prevent carbon deposit build up on the rings. This applies to both two and four stroke motors.
I personally use Seafoam every other tank and one bottle of ring-free per season for good preventative maintenance. You can purchase Seafoam and any auto parts store, most marine dealers, and Farm & Fleets. You can purchase Ring-Free at most marine dealers since Yamaha and Merc recommend it's use.
Merc ELPTO 60's and 75's have been great motors, very reliable and good longentivity. If it's a four stroke, it is most likely a Yamaha power head in that era. They too are good motors.

Location: Chicago, Beverly | Use Bombardier 2X4 Fuel Stabilzer regardless of what brand the engine is... I have never had a tank go bad on me yet... Also, if possible try and siphen or drain some of that into your vehicle and/or mower(is the gas premixed or straight gas?) If premixed skip the vehicle thing... How long has it been in the tank? A few months? Last fall? Might not be too bad yet... Last summer, a couple years? yeah, try and drain some out then mix fresh stuff with the rest... Definitely run some engine cleaner through it along with the Fuel Stabilizer... |

Location: syracuse indiana | well as i have learned in a special way..lol DRAIN THAT TANK. do not use that gas in that motor. u see gas may not go bad if it was treated but it will loose octane. and that will hurt the motor. kevin is a omc kind of guy but i run mercury and their quickclean is some awsome stuff. i would drain that gas and run it in a lawnmower. fill it up and put in 1 ounce per 6 gal of gas. also u can go to www.bassboatcentral.com and go to sherm's merury board and learn alot there those guys know their stuff.. also the quickclean is kinda pricy usually 8 bucks for a 12 fl oz bottle..but worth every penny.. seafoam is verry good stuff too. i have used it in other motors with good results.....bill
BUT REMEMBER STABILLIZER DOES NOT PROTECT THE OCTANE ONLY GAS BREAKDOWN
