It has always been said that lake of the woods is a 10-10 fishery. Has anybody had any luck with an early bite?
We have always fished late in the day & into the night. By the time we eat & have a couple 4:00AM comes around Way to early!
What are your thoughts?? Weeds, Rocks, Current, suspendos (troll)?

Well
Just to give you some stats over the past 6yrs or so, We have most all of our big fish from the window of 10:00am to 3:00 pm, we fish till dark, go to resort make dinner and Drink our faces off till 2 or 3 am, wake up at 9:00 and are fishing by 10:00, I think back and it I know all of our 50"ers have came in this time slot, Spring, summer and Fall trolling, Yes ther are other time we have got big gals up to the boat, like at dark.

Hope this help, it sure is working for us!!

Hi Keith,

I'm not so sure about LOTW but fishing Dryberry for 12 years now I can tell this. We can't buy a fish before 10 am. I tell everyone who comes up to fish Dryberry its bankers hours here. 9 to hour past dark. I'm not sure why, but we've fished early a lot with no luck. On the other hand we've caught lots of fish between 10am and 4pm.

Thanks

Dave

Hey Keith! We have had some luck at sun up on LOTW when it is very warm in July. But only on bright moon lit nights first thing in the morning. It seems if there is any cloud cover or new moon or cool weather, we have found it best to just sleep in.

We have never even tried the morning bite, so we wouldn't know. But the guys we go with do get up and do some morning fishing, they haven't had any luck yet.

But we do the same thing as one guy mentioned above. Usually on the water by 11:00 am at the lastest, fish til dark.

Drink our faces off, eat, and hit the sack around 2am.

Get up and do it all over for 7 days straight.

It doesn't get any better.

Same thing with my experience on the Goon, Sioux Narrows, Sabaskong, Whitefish, and many more in that area. I'd exclude Minaki way back in the 70's, the sunup bite and sundown bite was the hot time on the H2O. I have 3 fish over 48" before 10 AM on the Goon. I've had afternoons there with that many in two hours. A 12 hour day on the water is long enough, it's possible to fish 16 to 17 hours there in July, in SUNLIGHT. I must eat, must have time to relax and figure out why I miss so many of those horribly frustrating spotted muskies.
