Subject: Crank Baits-belly rub question

Recently I started "T" ing my hook to help reduce belly rub on my crank baits because they are getting all beat up from the hooks. Some of my older baits have groves where the hooks are rubbing. If I "T" my hooks -do the hook need to be a perfect "T" in order for this to help stop belly rub. One of my crank baits is still getting belly rub after I "T" the hooks, but I don't think I "T" the hook back are enough.Actually the left side of the bait is getting beat up and not the right. Anyway I was wondering if you can tell me what you do prevent this from happening. Do you use a different type of hook? Do you "T" your hooks? Do you "T" your hooks on all your baits or just some? Any info on this subject would be appreciated.
Thanks
Jay

JAY, I T almost all of my hooks now... I find that you have to really over T them to avoid the hookrash and grooves. It has not affected my hookup % or fish landed... it has actually improved it...

Hope this helps...

Jay, my pleasure.. suffice to say that when you spend $300 USD on a lure, you want to keep the hook rash to a minimum...

LOL

Let me know how you make out...

If one side of your crank bait is getting a groove or rub and the other side is not, you might have to tune the connector the opposite way. Some times crankbaits are very finicky and if they are just a tiny bit out of tune, this wearing on one side will happen. If they are deep runners sometimes its hard to tell if they are tuned perfectly, but the rub gives it away. Just my two cents!!

Some of the wood cranks come with screw eyes, check that the eye hasn't twisted off center.
