| Pulled my Tuffy into my garage and noticed a very disturbing smell. Further check, both trailer wheels were hot and smelled like either the bearings went or the oil was bad (in both at the same time?) Any ideas or places close to the North West burbs of Chicago that service trailers? It is a Tufftrail trailer. | |||

Posts: 32958 Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | Those are flow through greasable hubs, which can be regreased by simply pumping new grease into the zert on the end of the hub. Pick up the trailer on each side with a jack and see if the wheels are good and tight, if the bearing race is shot, the wheel will 'wobble'. Either way, I'd get it to a repair shop before going very far. If the race is shot, it's not too tough to replace the bearings. The trailer is made by Vanguard/Trailmaster, your packet will have information as to how to call them.

| Thanks Steve, Seems i have everything in the packet BUT anything related to the trailer. Figures. I will have to look around to see who can look at it. | |||

Posts: 516 Location: Kildeer, IL | Dave, Try Master Hitch in Palatine. They service trailers too. I got new tires put on my trailer in Des Plaines, and they packed my bearings for me. The charge for packing the bearings was $8.00. Although, I don't know if they repair bearings. The name of the place was: Petterson Safety Service 644 Pearson Street Des Plaines, IL 847-824-3733

Posts: 56 | If you need to redo your trailer bearings, I'd consider going with a LiquaLube wheel hub kit. LiquaLube wheel hub kits use an oil bath to protect your bearings, not grease. They're a bit pricey up front, but they last a long time and allow you to see your oil level and oil condition, whereas greased hub units do not. My trailer hauls a Tuffy Esox Mag and has had them on for 8 years, during which it's traveled to Canada 14 times and countless miles in WI and MN. I've only changed oil once the original install and the only reason I changed the bearings was because I thought I better, not because they appeared worn or allowed any wheel slop. http://www.liqualube.com Check them out. | Thanks for the info guys. The bearings were ok actually. They just needed to be re-packed. The brakes were also checked and they seemed ok too. At least i didnt spin an axle. I am considering liquilube in the future.
