Whats your favorite early season lure? From reading posts it seems that gliders and chartuse bucktails were what actually got the fish in the boat.

thanks

You can use just about anything. I went out with Tony Rizzo the first year I went musky fishing and he swore by the Rizzo Wizz.
I dont blame him. He caught 5 muskies that day on it and my buddy got another on one. It is deadly early in the year.

However, I have had good luck using big crankbaits. 8inch Wileys Head Shakers and 6 inch Stalkers have been my go to lure in the spring. Ive caught more fish on these baits than any other but I use them most of the time.

Dont be afraid to try using some spoons. My wife caught a nice musky last spring on a 1.25 ounce little cleo spoon. I think half the battle is finding baits that the muskies havent seen for a while or something a bit more erratic than normal.

Good luck.

My favorite early season lure seems to vary each year on various lakes. So far in MN mine hands down is the Undertaker. Last year was suicks, and two years ago shumway flasher. Throw big my man, don't let the small spring time lure saying trick you. So you could say my confidence baits are glide/jerks right now.

Thanks for the replies. I will look into some of these baits and techniques and hoppefully get a few fish to agree too.

rizzo wiz is a sure thing in the spring! it's small profile and unassuming shape pry's their mouths open when nothing else will. topwater walk-the-dog baits will make the fish get stupid and smack them as well.
my 2 cents...

I have never really gone with the "early season downsize" theory. I think that if the fish wants it, it won't matter what size the bait is, it's gonna go after it. Granted I don't have many Monster 10" plus lures in my arsenal, but I throw anything in my box no matter what the season. I tend to think that Lure speed and action have more to do with it all then size does. Just one fishermans opinion.

Creatures, Undertakers, and Suicks. When all else is not working for me, or I need to work the slop, Violent Strike sinnerbaits.
