What are your thoughts on lure scents?
Was fishing a tournament this past weekend and saw some other fisherman spray down his lure before using. Do scents work? Any recommendations?

Andy,
If you want to see something funny bring that question up tonight to me and my partner at league, you would get a chuckle. He is Mr. Scent!

Me personally, I don't put any stock in a scents triggering effects on musky. I do think it could be used to cover up a negative scent in some extreme conditions, but I think a good bar of soap would do just as good and is significantly cheaper.

I play with scents on occasion. The biggest trouble is getting sticky or oily (hands, boat, etc).
I read a quote once, way back, and don't remember it exactly but it was something like.."Pike do not have a sense of smell, but fisherman know better".
Covering up a negative scent is usefull with picky fish. I do carry a bar of scent-free soap in a sandwich baggie in my box at all times. It is easy to get a little oil or gas on your hands launching the boat or other ways.
Look at the massive amounts of money spent on musky fishing, what is a couple of more measly dollars. ... can it hurt?

I bought a bottle recently. Right now, I spray it on my hands when I bait up. Too soon to tell if it makes a difference.
