Location: Athens, Ohio | I wasn't clear in your message if you were going to stick to bass fishing or were now targeting muskies. Maybe that's yet to be decided! A lot of muskies are caught at Cave Run in prime bass spots, many times using bass lures. So, first advice, any bait you put in the water should be accompanied by a strong leader of steel or fluorocarbon. You will not just be losing your favorite bass bait if you get it bit off by a muskie, you will likely harm or possibly kill the fish by leaving the lure in its mouth. Use higher-test line, too, and keep your drag loose to prevent break-offs.
Spinner baits work well for both bass and muskie. The tackle shop across from Scotts Creek ramp should be able to help you make a selection of size and color. These are fairly simple baits to use and may meet your needs. I've seen some big bass hooked down there on muskie spinners. Grim Reaper is a popular brand.
Be sure to have a good net handy in case you do hook a muskie, bring some needle nosed pliers (long handled preferred), to help you unhook the fish. And, a camera to capture the smiles of the moment.
