| This one is for you guys fishing the chain of lakes (Calhoun,Isles,Cedar), does anyone know if pure strain stocking is going to continue in this chain? When I looked at the DNR's website I see that Calhoun hasn't been stocked since 2000. Also disturbing is that none of the lakes are being primarily managed for pure strains. I believe the website states that Tiger Muskies are one of the primary management species in all three lakes. I had contacted the DNR a number of months ago and never got a response regarding this issue. I have recently contacted them again and hope for a response soon. What a huge mistake it would be to stop stocking pure strains in this chain! |

| Originally the plan was to have tigers in these lakes to provide a trophy fisherie for urban people who may not have the means to go up north or Canada but allow them the chance to still catch a big fish,,,also the tigers would help to get a hold on the stunted panfish population in these lakes,,It was thought that because this is a urban fisherie there would be alot of Harvesting going on and Tigers are faster growing and cheaper to raise,,,Also remember Rod Ramsell is no longer the biologist in charge of the west side of the metro he is now on the east side he was the one Im sure who started the pure strains.

| The plan according to Daryl Ellison is to no longer stock pure strain muskies and to review the management plan for hybrids. He didn't give me a good idea of wht that means exactly. What a shame to develop such an awesome fishery in ten years and then give up on it for no good reason. How about taking 100 of the 3,000 fingerlings that go into Minnetonka and dump them into Calhoun every other year. I am sure Rod Ramsell would agree that this is all Calhoun would need to maintain a quality fishery. I urge all of you to contact Daryl Ellison at the West Metro fisheries office and express your concerns. His phone # is 952-826-6771 and e-mail adress is [email protected].
HELP SAVE THIS FISHERY!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
