How much wood is in an old (1988) ranger fisherman? I have chance to buy one for about $5000? Is this a good price? If not how much wood can I expect to repalce. ANY INFO MUCH APPRECIATED

I had an 1988 and that was the first year for a composite transom. If the boat is a very early model it will have a wood transom. Take the serial number and call Ranger and they can tell you. The only other wood will be where you mount and electronics or other equipment. They do such a good job of encapsulating the wood, you should not have any problems. They are really nice boats.

Wood is actually a very good boat building material. If properly sealed, it's lifetime. Most problems occur when the end user opens up the resin coat by mounting an accessory and then removing it while faileing the seal the hole. Another culprit is an improperly sealed outboard mounting job.
