I'm planning on getting a new rod that will mainly be used for bucktails and an all purpose backup rod in case I have an extra with person with me. I'm pretty much decided on the St. Croix Premier PM70MHF, but after looking at some of the thoughts on rods here I thought I'd throw it out here. For the purpose Im looking for this rod what would you get at $120 or less?

Bucktail rod, my all time favorite is a Cortland. But, between the Croix and the Fig, I would go with the Fig

Fig Rig is the best rod for your money. The fig is super light and the cork has a great feel. I fished g-loomis and diamondbacks. Believe me when i say Fig Rig Tooth Tammer for $145 is the best thing going. The small company is about to get huge. The owner backs his rod's up no matter what happens.

St. Croix....All the way! I've got a 7'2" that I wouldn't trade for any rod I've ever thrown.

Just my $.02 worth

The Fig Rig is a nice rod, I would also look at the s-series from thornebros. Same price range and they are a custom rod, you could even pick out the colors and such. Worth looking at...Ben

I have zero experience with the Fig Rigs, but tons of it with St. Croix. I have never had anything but pleasurable experiences with all of my St. Croix sticks. I still have one (retired now) that is a late 80's vintage rod. It works as good now as it did back then. My next bad experience with a St Croix will be my first, and I have thousands of hours on the water with these things.

I would go with the Fig Rig. Two options available, Extreme Series around 89 dollars and the Tooth Tamer Series around 159 dollars. Best deal out there is the Exteme Series and Fig Rig has outstanding customer service if the need would ever arise.

10-4 on the FigRig, St. Croix lost my business when they changed their warranty procedure. Lifetime on Avid only,no thanx!

I'm using Fig Rig Tooth Tamers and I have nothing bad to say about them, except that they seem to scare the fish away

There are ton of nice rods out there but I tell you what, for hooksetting power, and physically easiest over the course of the day, I love my Fig Rig.

Correction St. Croix Premier 6', 6'9" or 7'2" Heavy or 7'6" or 8' Medium Heavy

Or for more money the St. Croix Avid or even more money Frank's Custom Rods Diamondback

I used my muskie fishing partner's St Croix - Avid and the guide's
Fig Rig - tooth tamer, before making a decision to make a rod purchase. Hands down the Fig Rig-tooth tamer is the better rod. It is lighter, the quality is better, and a better warranty. Bottom line - My choice was to purchase a 7'6" Fig Rig tooth - tamer, last fall.

Wow, this is gonna be a tough decision, both seem to have quite a few in their corner. I have two St. Croix's now, and the only reason Fig Rig was a consideration was because of the following it also has on here. I don't have anywhere to get my hands on one locally, so if I bought one it would be sight unseen something I don't like to do. One other mark against the Fig Rig, is after asking on another forum I found out the Fig Rig's are made in China

If your closest Gander Mtn does not have them in stock, the UPC's are in the system and they can special order one, or have it transfered from my location.

Guide's Choice Pro Shop in Eagle River has handled the Figs since Kevin Figgins came out with them and has a nice selection in stock. 715-477-2248.
