Looking for a nice glide bait for this spring and was wondering what the difference was between the two. Can anyone shed some light on this through past experience? They are very similar in weight and size. Thanks.

Hellhound: Plastic vs. wood (much more consistant actions).

Hellhound: can be worked much faster with less effort.

Hellhound: wobble on pause that has to be seen to be believed.

Hellhound: flat sides vs. round "cigar" style

My vote is go with the Hellhound. The only thing that might be of interest with the Undertakers is they are very erratic. The problem I had with them is they were erratic when I wanted a rhythmic cadence and vice versa. The Hellhound does whatever you want it to, when you want it to. My .02 cents.

Undertaker-you can easily work this bait at least two different ways. Nice eay pulls gets you the under water walk the dog. By snapping the rod you get an erratic action. Check out the area on MuskieFirst website about photos and there is video on pool demonstration on different ways to work the Undertaker.

One thing that I like about the hellhound is that it rides a bit deeper than the undertakers. Also, the hellhound is quite a bit bigger and runs more like a manta with controlled side to side swings. Undertakers swing side to side and up to down....more erratic. I've had a few fish miss em and they dont seem to have great hookup %.

Both are good baits. Actually they work somewhat similar in that you can pop them fast and make them go up and down. The heckhound has a longer glide than does the undertaker. I have both and use both with success. My decision would be based an when I am doing most of my fishing and where.

I can make an Undertaker literally dance from surface to 3 or so feet down, and love the way I can change direction, even oblique angles. I think the Hellhound will do as well, but not as erratically. The Hellhound shines on the wobbling sink, and the sudden 90 degree changeups after a 5 second pause. WOW.. Both are great lures, and both have their place.

I think you need both. They have different uses. I have chart/clown undertaker that was brand new and now has very little clear and paint left. I need a bait to workslow and shallow and the fish loved it. I really like the undertaker, but also and excited with what use I have of the hellhound thus far. Like I said, you need both:)Ben

Underwaretaker all the way. It is a proven fish slayer(for me) and I am partial to woodies!(In more ways then one!) Plus will be throwing some of my own woodies, in the mix!

Both are great baits.

The Hellhound is solid plastic, and has a wider range of 'controllable' action. And man does that wobble look sexy!

Undertaker....the thing just plain catches fish. Is it touchy, yes? But once you get the hang of it, its an amazing bait. The reason guys can't keep it subsurface is because they're working it way too fast and hard. 2-3" pulls is all it takes.

Young guys always have problems with Undertakers popping to the surface because they're in a hurry. An Undertaker is an old bulls bait. Work it nice and slow and it'll stay down.
Perc, working an Undertaker is like making love.......slow down dude!!!! LOL!!!

lol...this young guy loves to work it fast (the undertaker) in the summer. ive never had a problem with it coming out of the water. not all undertakers are created equal. i have a couple where i can tap it as light as i possibly can, and itll dance, and others where you have to put a little more force behind. find the cadence/frequency that works best.

Thanks guys for the info. Looks like I will need both in my arsenal! Do you use a straight or 7-strand leader with them? Also, has anyone had any problems with the Undertakers hookups because of how erratic it swims? Seems to me that you might after watching the poolside video.

I love the Undertaker because of its action. You can swing it side to side and then give it a short snap and it will pop up and then down.

I have watched plenty of fish that were following the side to side action of the Undertaker to the boat just waiting for a trigger. That is when I will add the up/down. Most of the time the fish and bait will be 20 to 30ft out and you can set the fish up for this trigger. They are just waiting for something different to happen.

The Undertaker is a great easy bait to use. Most of them are close to equal as far a weighted and performance. I have 33 Undertakers and 5 or 6 of them run very high. 5 ro 6 of them also run very low.

You can get your Undertakers to work at different depths just by the way you work them. I can get the high riders to work deeper just by letting it sink a bit, then work it in. Remember, the faster you work them the higher they will ride.

I have not used the Hell Hound to much but it will be almost impossible to get me to put down the Undertakers in place of the Hell Hound.

Simple, just buy a few of each..............

Still waiting to pick up a hellhound, which will happen eventually. Right now I loooove the Undertakers. That move that Mike is talking about is killer!!!! The death glide. You don't neccessarily have to slow down. I like to fish them with lots of fast erratic twitches, then pause it. The fish tend to eat as you pause it when fishing like this, but can be all over the place chasing it. That's when the pause helps out.

Get 'em both though. They will all have a time and a place, and you may develop a liking for one or the other.

Bring on opening day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The HellHound is one of the best Glider I have ever thrown. It can do just about anything. the jerk bait trollers will LOVE this one!!
the Undertaker is also another fine Glider. the undertaker shines with a very slow presentation. As with all lures they are tools and each will have a time and place.

After last weekend, my choice would have to be the hellhound. My buddy Rob and I hooked into 8 fish and landed four of them with 5 other follows, all on Hellhounds, we got two 44's, a 41 & a 36 in two days of fishing, though I have caught several fish on Undertakers as well as other gliders such as Jerko's & Squirko's. I think you should have them all, they all have their time & place.

Heck...I designed and manufactured the Hellhound over a period of 3 years. I am proud of it and there is a ton of sentimental value in that bait for me...

HOWEVER.....

I will still throw my Undertakers from time to time. They are absolutely AWESOME baits.... Infact when we designed the hellhound we took what we liked in all our favorite jerk baits into the design...The Undertaker was definatley on the list..

Thanks for the kinds words on our products!!

And CONGRATS on winning that tourney on the Helldoggy, Mr. Stella!!! AWESOME!! How bout we trade you a free Custom Hellhound for some pics for our site????
